Christopher Holt, 23, of Washington, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in the 500 block of First Street SW in Cedar Rapids on a Washington County warrant for possession of a controlled substance marijuana second offense. Extradition arrangements will be made.


Traffic accidents

A caller reported Wednesday afternoon that a car had hit a pedestrian at E Avenue and Sixth Street in Kalona. Officers, the Iowa State patrol, Kalona QRS, Kalona Fire Department, Washington County Ambulance, AirCare, and Johnson County Ambulance all responded. One subject was transported by AirCare to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A traffic accident with a buggy was reported Wednesday afternoon in the 1000 block of Highway 1 in Kalona. The buggy was upside down. The horse and driver were both standing up. An officer responded and disregarded medical and fire. No injuries. The officer advised there were no other vehicles involved. The horse had detached from the buggy and caused the buggy to flip over.


Disabled vehicles

An officer reported Thursday morning being out with a vehicle at E Avenue and First Street in Kalona. It was unoccupied.


Fire calls

Johnson County received a report of a fire alarm zone in the 1400 block of 540th St. SW in Kalona Wednesday morning. Kalona Fire Department responded. No fire was detected.

A corn field at Buckeye Avenue and 275th Street in Keota was reported on fire Wednesday afternoon. No structures were nearby. Richland Fire and Keota Fire responded and extinguished the fire.

A house or barn fire was reported Wednesday evening at Redwood Avenue and 220th Street in Washington. It was a controlled burn of a shed.



An assault between two students was reported Wednesday afternoon in the 600 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington. An officer spoke with the caller. The incident is under investigation.  Charges are pending.



A caller in the 600 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington reported Wednesday morning that students had entered the building the previous evening. An officer responded. The incident is under investigation.

A deputy reported Wednesday afternoon being out in the 800 block of Sixth Avenue in Wellman in reference to a theft. The incident was documented.



A caller reported Wednesday morning she was contacted last week by a subject who said she won money and needed to send $7,000. She sent $380 via Wal-Mart to Wal-Mart. This week she sent another $900 via Western Union in Fort Lauderdale. An officer advised her this was a scam and to make her bank aware of the situation. The incident was documented.


All other thefts

A caller reported Wednesday morning that her son stole money from a locker in the 1100 block of South B Avenue in Washington. The incident happened one to two weeks ago. An officer responded. A report will be filed.



A caller in the 900 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported Wednesday morning receiving harassing phone calls on his cell phone. The incident was documented.

A caller in the 100 block of North Marion Avenue in Washington reported Wednesday afternoon that subjects were harassing her and her husband and had threatened to destroy her business. This was over the sale of truck doors. An officer spoke with the caller. The incident stems from Keokuk County. The officer will try to contact the other subjects. The incident was documented.


Illegal dumping

A large amount of trash was reported on both sides of the road and in the roadway in the 2700 block of Coppock Road in Washington Wednesday afternoon. An officer and county roads responded. No identifiers were located.


Animal complaint

A bat was reported Thursday morning in a residence in the 700 block of East Main Street in Washington. An officer was unable to locate.


All other offenses

Juveniles were reported on top of a shelter in the 900 block of West Main Street in Washington throwing shingles Wednesday afternoon. An officer responded and spoke with the juveniles, who went on their way.


Runaway/missing person

A caller in the 1100 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported Wednesday night her 16-year-old daughter said earlier she was on her way home from Iowa City and had not arrived home. An officer spoke with the mother and attempted to locate the juvenile. The mother later reported the juvenile had made it home safely.


Suspicious activity

Suspicious activity was reported Wednesday afternoon in the 1900 block of Larch Avenue in Washington. An officer spoke with the caller. No criminal charges, but an officer will speak with the subject and tell him to stop the activity.
