Alexandria Marie Sinn, 21, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested Monday afternoon in the 200 block of West Main Street in Washington on a Washington County warrant for possession of controlled substance – methamphetamine, first offense.

Kaitlyn Lee Shapcott, 24, of Hills, was arrested Monday evening in the 1 block of East South Street in Danville, Illinois, on two Washington County warrants. One warrant was for possession of controlled substance – marijuana, second offense; and the second warrant was for controlled substance violation.


Traffic accident

A caller Monday morning at East Main Street and North Fourth Avenue in Washington reported an accident with no injuries. One lane was blocked. An officer responded. Damage amounted to more than $1,500, and a state accident report will be filed. Duane Davis, of Washington, was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign. A towing service responded and towed one vehicle.

A caller Monday night at Highway 218 and 150th Street in Riverside reported a traffic accident with no injuries, and one vehicle in the ditch. An officer responded. A towing service responded and assisted.

A subject Tuesday morning at Highway 1 and Fir Avenue in Brighton reported to an officer that he hit a deer with his vehicle. The vehicle was drivable but was leaking fluid. Documentation was made for insurance purposes. The subject was advised to fill out an accident report.

A caller Tuesday morning at 320th Street and Wayland Road in Wayland reported a vehicle in the ditch, with no one around. The flashers were on.  A second caller advised that he located the driver and that he was in a car-vs.-deer accident. The caller gave the subject a ride to work, and the driver advised he would get the vehicle towed later on Tuesday. An officer responded, and added the vehicle to the system and put orange tape on the vehicle.


Traffic other

A caller Monday morning in the 1800 block of Highway 22 in Kalona reported receiving a report from their bus driver that a red Monte Carlo passed a line of cars and took the ditch, almost hitting their school bus. The bus driver was unable to see the license plate. The caller requested having a deputy respond to review the video. An officer spoke with the caller, who was able to provide the license plate. Owner information was given. The school will counsel the driver, a student, internally.


Disabled vehicles

A caller Monday night at North 12th Avenue and East 15th Street in Washington reported a disabled vehicle with a flat tire. An officer responded. The vehicle had a flat tire and was going to be removed the next morning.

Animal complaint

A caller Monday morning in the 100 block of Ninth Street in Kalona reported a case of animal neglect/abuse. An animal had to be euthanized that morning due to malnutrition and dehydration. An officer spoke with the caller and responded to speak with the sale barn. Information was forwarded to Ottumwa to do a welfare check on the subject’s animals. Documentation was made.


Family offense nonviolent

A caller Monday morning in the 100 block of North Taylor Street in Brighton reported that his 16-year-old stepson was out of control after returning home from being gone all night. The incident was verbal only. An officer responded. The juvenile calmed down.


Motor vehicle theft

Johnson County reported locating a stolen vehicle, Monday evening at Wapsi Avenue and 560th Street in Lone Tree. The vehicle will be impounded. An officer was advised for documentation.


Suspicious activity

A caller Monday afternoon at North Second Avenue and East Main Street in Washington reported children crawling out the windows and getting on the roof of the house north of the United Presbyterian Church.  A second caller advised there was also a dog up there. An officer spoke with the mother and a 4-year-old child who was on the roof. A dog was also on the roof and was very aggressive. A verbal warning was given. About two hours later, there was another report that a child and a dog were on the roof. An officer spoke to the mother, who advised she would lock the window.


All other theft

A caller Monday evening in the 3100 block of Highway 22 in Riverside reported his wallet was stolen on the game floor on March 31. He had reported this to his bank and to the business location. Two driver’s licenses and debit cards were inside the wallet. Driver’s licenses were entered into the system. A report will be filed.
