Bawi Run Hum, 25, of Columbus Junction, was arrested Tuesday morning in the 400 block of East Van Buren Street in Washington on charges of domestic abuse assault and child endangerment.


Traffic other

A caller Monday afternoon in the 200 block of First Street in Kalona reported a driving complaint. A red Chevrolet was tailgating and making unsafe passes. An officer stopped the vehicle. The subject was counseled on his driving.


Disabled vehicle

A disabled vehicle was reported Monday evening at Highway 1 and 130th Street in Kalona. An officer checked on the subject.

An officer reported being out with a broken-down vehicle, Monday night at North 12th Avenue and East 15th Street in Washington. The vehicle was added to the system.


Animal complaint

A sick raccoon was reported Monday afternoon in a backyard in the 1600 block of North Iowa Avenue in Washington. The raccoon was shaking. An officer responded. The animal was disposed of.



A caller Monday afternoon in the 900 block of West Fifth Street in Washington reported that four different storage units had been broken into again. An officer responded and planned to try to make contact with the victims to see if anything was missing. The information was documented for the moment.



A caller Monday night in the 1700 block of Vine Avenue in Riverside reported a harassment situation. The incident was documented.


Mental subject

A caller Monday night in the 1600 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington reported wanting to harm himself. Officers responded and transported the subject to the Washington County Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

Dispatch received a call Monday night in the 1600 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington regarding a mental subject.


Suspicious activity

A caller Monday afternoon in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported locating a suspicious item on top of their trash can on the east side of the building. An officer responded and picked up the item.

A caller Monday night in the 100 block of South Seventh Avenue in Washington reported a suspicious vehicle was at a residence and left the area when approached by the homeowner. There was no problem. The situation was resolved.


Tobacco violations

A caller Monday morning in the 1100 block of South Avenue B in Washington reported a tobacco violation. An officer responded. A citation was issued to a juvenile for second-offense tobacco violation.



A caller Monday afternoon in the 500 block of North Avenue C in Washington reported subjects trespassing on their property and getting into their trash. An officer spoke with the caller, for documentation purposes.


Welfare check

A caller Monday afternoon in the 600 block of Eighth Avenue in Wellman requested a welfare check on an employee. An officer responded. The subject was not at the residence. Officers responded after school hours. The male subject had just returned home. Everything was fine.


All other offenses

A caller Monday morning in the 1300 block of Deer Run Drive in Riverside reported someone cut his horse fence the previous night. An officer spoke to the caller, and documentation was made.

A caller Monday morning in the 300 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington reported an assault that occurred on the school bus that morning. An officer responded and spoke with both subjects. Charges will be filed on one juvenile for simple assault.
