Arrests

John David Helmuth, 45, of Kalona, was arrested Thursday afternoon in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington on a Washington County warrant for first-degree theft.

 

Traffic accident

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 600 block of Golf View Lane in Washington reported an accident with no injuries.   Two vehicles were involved. One was a delivery box truck. An officer responded. One vehicle was parked and went out of gear backward, rolled down a hill and hit a parked vehicle. The operator got into the moving truck in an attempt to get it out of gear. Damages were more than $1,500, and a state report will be filed.

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 1600 block of Highway 92 in Wellman reported a two-vehicle accident involving two Mid-Prairie school buses. An officer responded. Damages were under $1,500. The accident happened on private property, and information was exchanged.

 

Traffic other

A caller Thursday morning in the 100 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported that a Texas passenger car had continued to occupy space in the two-hour parking in front of the store. An officer was chalking the tires, and the owner came down to speak with him. They were counseled about parking in the two-hour parking against the curb.

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 700 block of South 10th Avenue in Washington reported that vehicles from a track meet at Case Field were partially blocking their driveway. An officer responded. Contact was made with Case Field, and they were going to do a broadcast about getting the vehicles moved.

 

Disabled vehicles

An officer reported being out with a vehicle along the roadway, Thursday afternoon at Larch Avenue and Highway 92 in Washington. No one was around. The vehicle was added to the system.

 

DP & Q

A caller Thursday night in the 1600 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington reported that neighbors’ kids and a male subject were running up and down the stairs and on the deck, and requested an officer. An officer checked the area and was unable to find anyone running around.

 

Suspicious activity

A caller Thursday morning in the 2500 block of Highway 1 in Washington reported suspicious noise outside her house. Officers responded. Everything was fine.

 

Welfare check

A caller Thursday night in the 400 block of South Jefferson Street in Brighton reported that her friend had been sending her text messages that sounded suspicious. The caller requested a welfare check on the friend. An officer spoke with the subject. There was no problem.

 

All other offenses

A caller Thursday morning in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona reported having a problem with her child that morning. An officer responded. The juvenile was taken to school.

An abandoned bicycle was reported Thursday morning in the 100 block of East Main Street in Washington. It was black with blue lettering, and had been on the east side of the YMCA since Monday. An officer responded and took a Trek 14-speed mountain bike to the bike shed.
