Arrests

Heather Marie Howard-Butler, 34, of Riverside was arrested Wednesday afternoon in the 1100 block of Redwood Avenue in Riverside on a Deuel County, Nebraska, warrant for attempted possession of controlled substance – methamphetamine, attempted possession of tetrahydrocannabinols (THC), attempted possession of controlled substance – zolpidem tartrate, and unlawful acts relating to drugs and possession of or use of drug paraphernalia.

Esau Rios, 35, of Keota was arrested Wednesday night in the 1500 block of East Seventh Street in Washington on a Washington County warrant for failure to appear on original charges of assault on persons in certain occupations – bodily injury, child endangerment, and interference with official acts. He was also wanted through the Mount Pleasant Police Department on warrants for failure to appear PTC on original charges of no insurance and driving under suspension.

Traffic accident

A caller Wednesday morning in the 1100 block of South Avenue B in Washington reported her daughter’s car was struck on the east side of the school. An officer responded. Two vehicles were struck. Information was exchanged. Damage was over $1,500, and a state report was filed.

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 400 block of North Avenue B in Washington reported that a traffic accident occurred at Iowa Bridge & Culvert, with both vehicles at center. Information was exchanged. Damage was over $1,500, and a state report was filed.

Traffic other

Washington City Hall received a complaint, Wednesday morning, of a gray Chevrolet Blazer parked in the 1600 block of North Highland Avenue in Washington. It had a flat tire and had not been moved for at least three months. An officer spoke with the owner of the vehicle. They advised that the vehicle was disabled, and they were advised on the city ordinance. The owner will work on moving the vehicle.

A caller Wednesday morning in the 300 block of North Fourth Avenue in Washington reported a camper was parked blocking his driveway. The camper was parked in the wrong location, and was going to be moved. There was no problem.

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 1300 block of North Third Avenue in Washington reported an RV parked for a week on the street. An officer responded and chalked the tires.

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 100 block of Kleopfer Avenue in Riverside reported a construction flatbed trailer continued to park on the city street, against city ordinance. An officer was unable to locate a flatbed trailer but was able to find a dump t ruck, and the owner was advised of the city ordinance.

A caller Wednesday afternoon at East Madison Street and South Second Avenue in Washington reported a gas can in the road with gas leaking out. An officer picked up the can and took it to the Washington Police Department. The city was notified to check on the gas in the road.

Disabled vehicles

An officer advised being out with a vehicle along the roadway, northbound on Highway 218 at 175th Street in Riverside, Wednesday afternoon. No one was around. There was another disabled vehicle with two front flat tires at Mile Marker 74 near 180th Street. Documentation was made.

An officer reported being out with a vehicle stopped on the roadway and no one around, Wednesday night at Highway 218 and the Highway 92 ramp in Ainsworth. Officers responded. An officer advised that charges were pending per DCI lab results. The information was documented.

An officer reported a disabled vehicle was added to the system, Wednesday night at Highway 92 and Quince Avenue in Washington.

Fire calls

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 100 block of First Street in Kalona reported a white truck was on fire in the parking lot. Kalona Fire, Kalona QRS and an officer responded. The fire was extinguished. A towing service was contacted and responded to remove the vehicle.

Animal complaint

A caller Thursday morning in the 800 block of South Iowa Avenue reported a bat in her residence. An officer responded and assisted.

A caller Thursday morning in the 900 block of North Marion Avenue in Washington reported a bat in his residence. An officer responded and assisted.

Barking dog

A caller Wednesday night at Cedar Street and Elmer Street in West Chester reported barking dogs in the area, and another couple of barking dogs east of that location. An officer checked the area and was unable to locate the barking dogs. There was a time delay because the officer was responding to other calls.

Burglary

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona reported a break-in and damage to a trailer that he owned. An officer spoke with the caller, who would like documentation for the time being. There were still items from the last tenant in the trailer.

Disorderly conduct

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 300 block of West Jefferson Street in Washington reported a female subject was at the residence trying to get her children, and they did not want her there. An officer responded and spoke with all parties. This was an incident over their children. There were no charges. The incident was documented.

Family offense non-violent

Deputies reported being out with a verbal domestic situation, Wednesday night in the 200 block of Washington Street in Ainsworth. Officers responded and the issue was resolved.

Fraud

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 1300 block of East Main Street in Washington reported a possible scam and requested to speak with an officer. An officer made contact with the subject. The information was documented.

Intimidation/harassment

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona reported that she was being harassed by her neighbors again. The neighbor also called, reporting the same about the first caller. An officer responded and spoke with all parties. This was an ongoing issue. Documentation was made.

A caller Wednesday night in the 600 block of East Second Street in Washington reported that he was receiving harassing text messages. An officer spoke with the caller. The information was documented.

Suspicious activity

A caller Wednesday night in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona reported her two daughters were being followed around the neighborhood after school by a male subject driving a car. The caller requested to speak with a deputy. A deputy spoke with the caller, who requested extra patrol after school. The caller was advised to call back when this was happening.

Trespass

A caller Wednesday night in the 3100 block of Highway 22 in Riverside reported a male subject was at her door and she didn’t want him there, and requested a deputy. An officer spoke with the caller. The male subject was gone upon the officer’s arrival. The officer retrieved the subject’s items from the residence and returned the items to him. There should be no further problems.

All other offenses

A caller Wednesday morning in the 1000 block of North Sixth Avenue in Washington reported a problem with her son at the residence. An officer responded. The son had left the residence prior to the officer’s arrival. The caller was advised to go through the proper eviction process.

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 500 block of South Avenue B in Washington reported finding trash and junk in his yard. An officer responded. The caller suspected youngsters across the street, and he would like them spoken to.

A caller Wednesday afternoon at North Fourth Avenue and East 10th Street in Washington requested to speak to an officer in reference to an incident with her juvenile son and another juvenile. An officer spoke with both parties. There were conflicting stories. Documentation was made.
