Arrests

Curtis Anthony Cousins, 33, of Washington was arrested Monday evening in the 1100 block of East Tyler Street in Washington on a Washington County warrant for failure to appear for pretrial conference on two charges of possession of controlled substance, third or subsequent.

Traffic accident

A caller Monday night at J Avenue and Seventh Street in Kalona reported a subject backed into his vehicle and left the area. An officer responded. Prior to the officer’s arrival, the subject returned to the scene and exchanged information. The caller did not want anything further. Documentation was made.

Disabled vehicles

An officer reported being out with an occupied broken-down vehicle, Monday afternoon at Highway 92 and Third Street in Ainsworth. The officer spoke to the driver. The vehicle overheated and he was going to let it cool down and then drive it into Washington.

Animal complaint

A caller Monday morning at 220th Street and Vine Avenue in Ainsworth reported there was a deer in the roadway. An officer responded and removed the deer from the roadway.

A caller Monday morning in the 2100 block of 250th Street in Washington reported there was a deer partially on the roadway just east of the railroad bridge. An officer responded and removed the deer from the roadway.

A caller Monday night in the 300 block of West Main Street in Washington reported a bat in the commons area. An officer responded and removed the bat.

Bad checks

A caller Monday morning in the 1400 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported a subject who had written a check on a closed account, for $63.35. The caller was advised to send a 10-day notice. If the caller got no response, then law enforcement could take further action.

Barking dog

A caller Monday afternoon in the 300 block of Howard Street in Kalona reported her neighbor’s dog barked all the time. The dog was in the residence and barked out the open window all day. The neighbors were not home at this time. The animal was a large white dog. An officer checked the area and was unable to locate.

A caller Monday night in the 300 block of East Seventh Street in Washington reported barking dogs, an ongoing issue. An officer responded. A citation was issued to Christopher James Beardshear of Washington for allowing a dog to bark.

Burglary

A caller Monday night in the 100 block of East Washington Street in Brighton reported a piece of equipment from her building. An officer responded. It was determined there was no forced entry, and there were no suspects. The caller did not have any information on the equipment. A report will be filed.

Disorderly conduct

A caller Monday night in the 700 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported a subject came to the residence causing an altercation. He had left, walking westbound. Officers responded and located the subject walking back to his residence. He was advised he was no longer welcome on the caller’s property.

Drug/narcotics violation

A caller Monday morning in the 500 block of Highway 1 in Washington reported a car in the parking lot that was all different colors and had a female inside possibly doing drugs. An officer spoke with the female subject and was unable to locate any drugs.

Illegal dumping

A caller Monday morning in the 100 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported he neighbors who live behind the store were putting trash in the caller’s dumpster. There was also video. An officer responded. The issue was resolved. There were no charges.

Intimidation/harassment

A caller Monday evening in the 700 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported to an officer at the sheriff’s office that she was being harassed by her son at her place of employment. The officer advised the male subject to cease contact with the reporting party.

A caller Monday night in the 300 block of West Jefferson Street in Washington reported he no longer wanted to have further contact with his mother, and he did not want her to contact his children anymore. An officer spoke to the caller’s mother and advised her of this.

Suspicious activity

A caller Monday morning in the 400 block of North Grant Street in Crawfordsville reported finding items in her old septic tank. An officer was unable to reach the items. The caller was advised of her options. Documentation was made. An officer later responded and assisted the caller in retrieving them. The items will be disposed of.

A caller Monday afternoon in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona reported a male subject in his 40s followed her and her sister home, driving an older white Chevrolet car. An officer spoke with the caller. The information was documented.

A caller Monday night in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington reported a male and a female approached her child and tried to get the child to go with them. An officer reviewed the cameras at the business, and no one had spoken to the child. The report was unfounded.

A caller Monday night in the 100 block of East Second Street in Washington reported a suspicious subject at the church. An officer responded and spoke with the subject. He was working on the church and would be finishing up in just a little bit. There were no issues.

A caller Tuesday morning at East Third Street and North Seventh Avenue in Washington reported an older white Dodge van with no headlights in the area. An officer responded and checked the area and was unable to locate the vehicle. The reporting party called back and advised that the vehicle had parked at East Second Street and North Seventh Avenue. Officers responded again and located two juveniles. The female juvenile was given a curfew warning and released to her parents. The male juvenile was at his own residence.

An officer reported being out with a vehicle, Tuesday morning in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington. Everything was fine. The subject was just making a delivery to a business.

A caller Tuesday morning in the 3100 block of East View Circle Drive in Riverside reported a suspicious vehicle in the area. An officer responded and was unable to locate the vehicle.

Tobacco violations

A caller Monday afternoon at South Marion Avenue and West Washington Street in Washington reported an underage juvenile smoking a cigarette in Central Park. He was sitting on a bicycle next to a table and wearing a bright orange shirt. Officers responded. The subject did admit to smoking. Contact would be made with his parent about the incident.

Welfare check

A caller Monday night in the 500 block of Third Street in Kalona requested a welfare check on a male subject. Officers responded. The male was intoxicated, but he was OK and there were other subjects with him.

All other offenses

A caller Monday night in the 1000 block of Walnut Avenue in Riverside reported a possible no-contact order violation. An officer spoke with all parties and the county attorney. No violation occurred. The issue was over a civil matter regarding a vehicle.

A caller Monday night in the 1500 block of North Fourth Avenue in Washington reported someone went through the residence and left all the doors open. An officer responded. Nothing was missing. Documentation was made.

A caller Monday night in the 1000 block of Walnut Avenue in Riverside reported that a subject, with whom she had a no-contact order, had called her six times. An officer spoke with the caller and attempted to make contact with the male subject. A report will be filed.
