Shawn Casey Yates, 34, of Washington, was arrested Thursday morning in the 1100 block of East Main Street in Washington for domestic abuse assault.

Denise Joann Goodwin, 42, of Washington, was arrested Thursday morning in the 1600 block of North Sixth Avenue in Washington for simple domestic assault.


Traffic accidents

A two-vehicle accident was reported Wednesday morning in the 200 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington. Information was exchanged. The incident was documented.

A vehicle accident was reported Wednesday afternoon at G Avenue and Fifth Street in Kalona. One subject had a minor head injury. Officers, the Iowa State Patrol, Kalona QRS, Kalona Fire and Washington County Ambulance all responded. One subject was transported to Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

A two-semi accident was reported Thursday morning in the 3200 block of Highway 1 in Brighton. Information was exchanged.


Disabled vehicles

A vehicle was reported parked at A Place and Fifth Street in Kalona across the sidewalk next to a fire hydrant, a caller reported Wednesday morning. Officers cited the vehicle.


Traffic other

A caller in the 500 block of West Main Street in Washington reported Wednesday afternoon that a subject had driven by her house and swore at her children playing in the yard. Officers were unable to locate the driver.


All other thefts

The rear license plates were reported stolen from two vehicles in the 1300 block of North Sixth Avenue in Washington Wednesday afternoon. The incident was documented.



A caller in the 300 block of Howard Street in Kalona reported Wednesday afternoon receiving a threatening message on her phone. Officers responded. The incident was documented.



A caller in the 3300 block of 190th Street in Columbus Junction reported Wednesday morning that his neighbor kept coming into his residence without permission. Officers responded. The caller was intoxicated.


Animal complaint

A welfare check was requested on dogs in the 3300 block of Underwood Avenue in Crawfordsville. The caller reported the dogs were not well cared for. Officers responded. The dogs appeared cared for. Unfounded.

An injured deer was reported Wednesday afternoon at Highway 22 and redwood Avenue in Riverside. Officers responded.

A caller in the 700 block of 12th Avenue in Wellman reported Wednesday night that at about 8 a.m. a subject was trespassing on her property and her German shepherd bit him. The incident was documented. The subject had not reported the incident.


Civil dispute

A caller in the 200 block of West Second Street in Washington reported Wednesday afternoon that his ex-wife didn’t show up to exchange his daughter. The incident was documented.


Runaway/missing person

A caller in the 400 block of South Jefferson Street in Brighton reported Wednesday night that her 17-year-old son had walked away from the residence and she was out looking for him. The son was located.


Welfare check

A subject was reported walking in the 2200 block of Highway 1 in Washington Wednesday night and was not dressed for the cold weather. Officers responded and gave the subject a ride into town.


Suspicious activity

A deputy was requested Wednesday afternoon in the 1700 block of Vine Avenue in Riverside to check out a suspicious container. Materials will be tested.

A caller in the City of Wellman reported Wednesday afternoon that a subject in a vehicle was following the caller and his wife around Wellman while they were running. The incident was documented.

A suspicious vehicle was parked Thursday morning in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington. Officers responded.
