Traffic accident

A caller Tuesday afternoon at Highway 22 and the exit ramp from Highway 218 in Riverside reported a two-vehicle accident with no injuries. One vehicle hit the back end of the other at the stop sign. Iowa State Patrol handled the accident.

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington reported that a mini bus struck a pole in the parking lot, and someone hit their head. An officer and an ambulance both responded. The ambulance transported one patient to Washington County Hospital in Washington. Damage amounted to more than $1,500, and a state report will be filed. Information was exchanged and photos were taken. A towing company was contacted to tow the mini bus.

A caller Tuesday afternoon at West Lincoln Street and South Avenue E in Washington reported that her son drove his vehicle into the ditch and hit a tree. There were no injuries. An officer responded. The caller was advised to fill out a state accident report. A private tow was contacted. The accident was documented.

A caller Tuesday evening at Highway 1 and West Main Street in Washington reported hitting a deer on Highway 1 north of the overpass near West Main Street. Damage to the white minivan amounted to more than $1,500, and the driver was given a state accident report to file. The vehicle was towed at the owner’s request.

Disabled vehicles

An officer reported being out with a disabled vehicle, Wednesday morning at Highway 22 and Palm Avenue in Kalona. An officer advised that it was unoccupied, and added it to the system.

Animal complaint

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 400 block of East Madison Street in Washington reported a small black-and-white dog had been outside for over five hours that day. The dog did not have any shelter, food or water. There were two dogs out, and they had taken one inside. An officer responded and spoke with the dog owner, who advised that they just put one dog outside a half hour before the officer’s arrival.

An officer received a request to check on a dog to make sure it could reach shelter, Tuesday afternoon in the 500 block of South Avenue B in Washington. The dog was fine and could reach shelter, and the owners would be putting it in the shed for the night. All city code requirements were being met.

Burglary

A caller Tuesday morning in the 3000 block of Highway 22 in Riverside reported burglary. An officer responded. Money was taken and there was damage to property. A report will be filed. The incident was documented.

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 200 block of West Second Street in Washington reported a burglary. A report will be filed.

Disorderly conduct

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 300 block of West 18th Street in Washington reported that his son was being aggressive. There had been past issues with his aggression. Officers responded. The parties were separated. The incident was verbal only.

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported that a female subject came into the business to get her dog, and caused a scene. They were accusing the shelter of stealing the dog. An officer responded. Documentation was made. The business agreed to call if the female returned.

Family offense nonviolent

A caller Tuesday morning in the 200 block of Washington Street in Ainsworth reported having a verbal disagreement with a male subject. An officer responded. The subject had left for an appointment. She was advised to seek a no-contact order.

Liquor law violations

An officer reported being at a vehicle stop Wednesday morning at Fifth Street and E Avenue in Kalona. An additional officer also responded. Terrhyn Allen Jacoby, 18, of Kalona, and Brandon Lee Kleese, 18, of Washington, were cited into court for possession of alcohol under the legal age.

Motor vehicle theft

A caller, Tuesday afternoon in the lobby of the sheriff’s office reported the theft of a vehicle in the 1300 block of 250th Street in Keota. The caller lent the vehicle to his nephew, who had not returned it. They did not wish to pursue charges.

Vandalism

A subject at the police department reported vandalism/damage to his fence, Tuesday morning in the 300 block of West Lincoln Street in Washington. The subject had taken photos for documentation.
