Arrests

Brian Leon Gingerich, 46, of Keota, was arrested Monday morning at Eighth Avenue and Second Street in Wellman on charges of driving under suspension, 14th offence, and no insurance.

Cole Joshua Dusenbery, 18, of Washington was arrested Monday afternoon in the 200 block of West Van Buren Street in Washington on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also cited for driving under suspension.

Roger Allen Whitlock, 57, of Riverside, was arrested Monday night in the 1400 block of Windham Hill Drive in Riverside on a charge of domestic abuse assault with intent or display of weapon.

Donald Eugene Williams II, 19, of Washington, was arrested Tuesday morning in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington on a charge of driving while license under suspension, first offense. Further charges are pending. Tracy Lee Milford, 41, of Washington, was arrested at the same time and location on a charge of fifth-degree theft.

Traffic accident

A caller Monday morning at Wayland Road and Coppock Road in Washington reported he hit a deer with his Dodge Ram truck. He had no injuries, and the deer was off the roadway. He believed there was minimal damage, but was advised he could pick up a state accident report if damages were over $1,500. An officer was advised. The accident was documented for insurance purposes.

AN accident was reported Monday evening at Highway 1 and 140th Street in Kalona involving two pickup trucks and a car. One vehicle was still in the roadway. Kalona QRS advised that they received a call on a personal phone that there were injuries and a possible trap. An ambulance transported one subject from the accident to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. A state accident report will be filed. A juvenile vehicle operator was cited for failure to maintain control. A towing service removed one of the vehicles.

A caller Monday night at Highway 92 and Ivy Avenue in West Chester reported hitting a deer on Highway 92 west of Juniper Avenue. There were no injuries to vehicle occupants. The vehicle was not drivable. A towing company responded and removed the vehicle. A salvage tag was issued to a Crawfordsville resident.

A caller Monday night in the 1100 block of Ginkgo Avenue in Wellman reported hitting a deer, with no injuries. An officer was advised for documentation.

Traffic other

A caller Monday afternoon in the 700 block of West Third Street in Washington reported an old gray car that had been parked on the street without being moved for three to four weeks. An officer responded. The vehicle was tagged and the tires chalked.

Disabled vehicles

A caller Monday morning in the 1900 block of Highway 1 in Washington reported a pickup and camper pulled over on Highway 1 about a mile north of the North Junction. The male occupant had the hood up and was trying to flag down traffic. The vehicle was overheating. He was going to get some water and try to make it to Kalona.

Fire calls

A caller Monday morning in the 3000 block of Ivy Avenue in Washington requested the fire department to put out a brush fire that was getting out of control because of wind. There was a building on the property, but it was not close to the fire at that time. Brighton Fire, Brighton QRS and an officer responded. The fire was extinguished.

A caller Tuesday morning in the 500 block of West Main Street in Washington reported an electrical fire in the bathroom. The caller believed he got the fire out but would like the Fire Department to check on it. Washington Fire Department and Alliant Energy responded. An ambulance was put on standby but was not needed. The fire was extinguished.

Assault

A caller Monday morning in the 600 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington reported that a student had pinched a staff member. The caller requested an officer. An officer responded. The juvenile was sent home.

A caller Monday morning in the 100 block of Ninth Street in Kalona reported being assaulted by his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend. There were no injuries, and both subjects were still at the site. An officer responded. There were conflicting stories. Statements were taken and would be turned over to the county attorney.

Barking dog

A caller Monday afternoon in the 800 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported a dog had been barking all day, and the caller requested an officer. An officer sat in the area and was unable to locate any barking dog.

Disorderly conduct

A caller Monday afternoon in the 700 block of F Avenue in Kalona reported a student was out of control at the school, and requested a deputy. Officers responded. The juvenile was charged with disorderly conduct and simple assault.

Family offense nonviolent

A caller Monday night in the 200 block of South Van Buren Street in Brighton reported a domestic dispute inside an apartment. A male and a female were fighting, and the male party was intoxicated. A Washington County officer and Jefferson County units responded. The incident was verbal only.

Fraud

A caller Monday morning in the 900 block of South Second Avenue in Washington reported someone opened a technology account in her name. An officer spoke with the caller. Documentation was made. She planned to talk with them in person the next day, and officers would speak with the suspect then.

Motor vehicle theft

A caller Monday morning in the 1400 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported a truck in their parking lot since Friday morning. Keys were in it, and it was unlocked. The staff noticed a female subject sitting inside the vehicle about 9 a.m. An officer responded. The vehicle was reported stolen from the Fairfield Police Department. Jefferson County arranged for a tow to retrieve the vehicle. The owner was notified by Jefferson County. A report will be filed.

Runaways/missing person

An officer advised that he had a subject stop by the Sheriff’s office and report her juvenile daughter as a runaway, Tuesday morning in the 2700 block of 285th Street in Washington. The juvenile had last been seen two hours earlier, wearing camouflage sweatpants and a denim jacket with gray sleeves. The mother called back when she arrived home and advised that her daughter had returned to the residence while she was gone. The officer was advised.

Suspicious activity

A caller Monday morning in the 2100 block of Yucca Avenue in Ainsworth reported finding a suspicious item on her property on Sunday. An officer responded. Documentation was made.

Vandalism

A caller Monday afternoon in the 1900 block of 140th Street in Kalona reported someone ripped the door off the camper. It had been strapped shut. The caller knew of no suspects. Documentation only was made.

Welfare check

A caller Monday morning in the 900 block of North Seventh Avenue in Washington reported her brother had her vehicle, and she could not locate him. He had not yet shown up at school. An officer spoke with the caller a short time later, and she advised that he did show up at school.

All other offenses

A caller Monday night in the 300 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported that someone had left a bicycle in their yard. An officer responded and picked up a pink-colored Next brand bicycle that had “Slumber Party” on it. The bicycle was taken to the bike shed.
