Shaun Michael Farrington, 36, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested Monday afternoon in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington on a Louisa County warrant for driving under suspension and providing false identification.


Traffic accident

A caller Monday morning in the 2700 block of Wayland Road in Washington reported an SUV in the ditch. There was a truck pulled up alongside of the roadway by the vehicle. It appeared as if there might be damages to the fence. An officer responded and was unable to locate the vehicle. It appeared that there was a vehicle alongside of the roadway at one point, but no one in the ditch.

A caller Monday morning at South Fourth Avenue and East Washington Street in Washington reported a major car accident with at least three occupants inside one vehicle. Two children were complaining of injuries – one was bleeding, and the other had shoulder pain. No one was trapped inside. The roadway was blocked. Officers, an ambulance, a Washington County rescue unit and Washington Fire responded.  Three vehicles were affected. The ambulance transported two subjects to Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Damage was more than $1,500, and a state accident report will be filed. A citation was issued to Sean Salazar, of Washington, for failure to yield upon making a left turn.  Two of the vehicles were towed.

A caller Monday morning at 247th Street and Palm Avenue in Washington reported a blue Monte Carlo in the north ditch with no one around it. An officer responded. It did not appear to have damage. The officer tagged the vehicle and added it to the system.

A caller Monday morning at East Van Buren Street and South Ninth Avenue in Washington reported she had been involved in an accident, and requested an officer. An officer responded. Damage was more than $1,500, and a state report will be filed. Yong Mei, of Washington, was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway.



A caller Monday night at 320th Street and Wayland Road in Wayland reported a car-vs.-deer accident. The vehicle had front and radiator damage, and the caller was not sure if the vehicle was drivable. An officer responded. The vehicle was not drivable. The driver planned to have it towed on Tuesday. The vehicle was added to the system, and the driver was given a state accident report to fill out.

A caller Tuesday morning at Highway 1 and 300th Street in Washington reported a car-vs.-deer accident. The caller’s 1998 Mazda had front-end damage, with a headlight missing, and air bags deployed. An officer responded. Documentation was made.

Traffic other

An officer reported being at a vehicle stop with snowmobiles, Monday night at East Madison Street and South Benton Street in Brighton. Two subjects were given verbal warnings for operating snowmobiles in the city of Brighton.

Disabled vehicles

A caller Monday morning at Highway 218 and 160th Street in Riverside reported needing a jack for a flat tire on a 2005 maroon Grand Prix. An officer responded and assisted with the tire.

A caller Monday morning in the 2700 block of Highway 218 in Ainsworth reported a vehicle that had been stalled for 30 minutes. The driver had no heat and was cold. The vehicle was a gray 2010 Chevrolet HHR. A tow truck had been contacted. An officer responded and assisted the driver until the wrecker arrived.

An officer reported being out with a disabled vehicle, Monday evening at South Second Avenue and East Washington Street in Washington. The vehicle was moved to a parking lot. A citation was issued to Isaias Aguilar-Sanchez, 26, of Washington, for no driver’s license.

Barking dog

A caller Monday night in the 300 block of East Seventh Street in Washington reported a barking dog outside. An officer responded. No one answered the door. The officer left a voice mail for the female subject.

Civil dispute

An officer reported being flagged down by a subject who advised he wanted a female subject to leave the residence, Monday night in the 30 block of North Washburn Street in Riverside. The female subject was advising that the caller threatened to kill her. He had served her the first step in the eviction process. An additional officer also responded. The parties were going to separate for the night. The female subject called in minutes later and advised that the male subject returned to the residence and assaulted her. The second officer responded. The male subject had left before the officer’s arrival. The female had no visible marks and advised that she had the assault on video, but did not. The incident was documented.

DP & Q

A caller Tuesday morning in the 100 block of Fifth Street in Kalona reported a beeping sound in a neighboring apartment. She stated that it had stopped. She was advised to call back in if it started up again. The caller did call back in. The beeping had not started again, but she still wanted someone to check it out. An officer responded and was unable to locate anything suspicious. The apartment was vacant. The subject needed to contact her landlord.

Drug/narcotics violation

A caller Monday afternoon in the 1600 block of Highway 22 in Wellman reported a student in possession of drug paraphernalia. An officer responded. Charges will be filed on a juvenile for possession of drug paraphernalia. A report will be filed.


A caller Monday afternoon in the 400 block of C Avenue in Kalona reported harassment. An officer spoke with the caller. The incident happened on social media. Documentation was made.

Sex offender

A sex offender registry was reported, Monday afternoon in the 100 block of North Taylor Street in Brighton.

Suspicious activity

A caller Tuesday morning in the 900 block of South Second Avenue in Washington reported suspicious activity. Officers responded and were unable to locate anyone.

All other theft

A caller Monday night in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported that a subject left the store without paying for $2.35 in gas. The subject was driving a black vehicle. Officers responded to the residence of the registered owner. He advised that he gave cash to the clerk. An officer advised that the subject would return to pay for the gas.
