Arrests

Alesa Lynn DeFrank, 57, of Washington, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in the 700 block of East Van Buren Street in Washington on a Washington County warrant for failure to appear on fifth-degree theft (bad check).

David Russell Johnson, 51, of Richland, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in the 3100 block of Highway 22 in Riverside on a Jefferson County warrant for assault.

Dylan James Fields, 22, of Washington, was arrested Tuesday night in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington on a Washington County warrant for two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

Traffic accident

A caller Tuesday morning at Quince Avenue and 275th Street in Washington reported a vehicle in the ditch under trees. An officer responded. A towing company towed the vehicle and advised that a family member had contacted them on Monday regarding towing the vehicle, so the family was aware. The vehicle was cleared as towed.

A caller Tuesday morning at North Iowa Avenue and East Third Street in Washington reported a two-vehicle accident with no injuries. Vehicles were out of the roadway. An officer responded, and a towing company towed both vehicles. Damage was over $1,500, and a state accident will be filed A citation was issued to Keith Bonfanti for failure to yield at a stop sign.

A caller Tuesday morning in the 3200 block of Highway 1 in Brighton reported a car-vs.-deer accident. The deer was off the roadway but was still alive. The 2011 Chevrolet Silverado was drivable. An officer responded to assist with the deer. A deer tag was issued to a Brighton resident.

A caller Tuesday morning in the 800 block of Lincoln Street in Ainsworth reported hitting mailboxes along Lincoln Street. He was not injured, but his vehicle was stuck. He planned to call for a wrecker. An officer responded. Three mailboxes had been struck. A towing company responded to assist. Jeremy Young, of Ainsworth, was cited for failure to maintain control. A state accident report was filed, and information was provided to the Ainsworth post office.

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 400 block of East Monroe Street in Washington reported that someone backed into his vehicle. They left the scene, and returned while the caller was on 911. An officer responded. A state accident report will be filed. Jennifer Nichols, of Washington, was cited for unsafe backing onto a highway.

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 100 block of West Washington Street in Washington reported a mini bus hit a parked vehicle in front of the library. Damage to the vehicles was minimal. Information was exchanged.

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 100 block of East Third Street in Washington reported her son was in an accident, and both vehicles were then pulled over into a parking lot. An officer responded. Damage was under $1,500. Information was exchanged. A juvenile subject was cited for failure to obey stop sign.

 

Traffic other

A caller Tuesday evening in the 600 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington reported a stop arm violation. An officer planned to respond to the bus barn on Wednesday to review the video. The incident is under investigation.

Callers on Thursday evening at Highway 218 and 140th Street in Riverside reported two to three snowmobiles riding in the median on Highway 218, and at one point they were northbound in the southbound lanes on a bridge. An officer responded and spoke with the subjects about auto safety and made them aware of the complaint.

 

Disabled vehicles

An officer reported being out with a vehicle along the roadway and no one was around, Tuesday night in the 2900 block of Highway 1 in Washington. The vehicle appeared to have hit a deer. The vehicle was tagged and added to the system.

An officer reported being out with vehicles, Tuesday night at 220th Street and Highway 1 in Washington. The officer advised this was a disabled vehicle. It was tagged and added to the system.

 

Fire calls

A caller Wednesday morning in the 300 block of Ninth Street in Kalona reported that their carbon monoxide detector was going off, making a chirping noise. Everyone was out of the home and was feeling OK. An officer and Kalona Fire Department responded. An ambulance was advised, and Kalona QRS was paged, but were busy on another call. The officer advised that no medical units were needed.

 

Civil standby

A civil standby was requested, Tuesday afternoon in the 30 block of North Washburn Street in Riverside. An officer responded and assisted.

Disorderly conduct

A caller Tuesday night in the 500 block of 11th Street in Kalona reported her neighbors were being loud and had thrown snowballs at her windows. An officer responded. The subject was gone upon the officer’s arrival. The caller was advised to call back when this was happening.

 

Fraud

A caller Tuesday morning in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona reported credit card fraud. An officer spoke with the caller and the credit card company. The information was documented.

 

Public service contacts

A caller Tuesday afternoon at East 13th Street and North Second Avenue in Washington reported a male subject sitting on a snowbank, wearing all black. An officer responded. The subject was given a ride to his residence.

 

Suspicious activity

A caller Tuesday morning in the 300 block of South Second Avenue in Washington reported a white male subject with glasses and wearing a brown coat, a hat and bluejeans, was sitting in a snowbank by the drive-through, drinking from a bottle. An officer responded and located the subject at Washington Street and Iowa Avenue. The subject was moving on to the library.

An officer reported being out with a vehicle, Wednesday morning in the 1400 block of East Washington Street in Washington. Everything was fine.

 

Tobacco violations

An officer reported being at a vehicle stop, Tuesday night in the 1100 block of E Avenue in Kalona. The officer cited a juvenile for possession of tobacco under the legal age.

 

Trespass

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 800 block of East Seventh Street in Washington reported a subject who continually trespassed onto her property, and requested that an officer ask him to stop. An officer spoke with the caller and planned to make contact with the other party. Contact was made with the other party, and both were advised to stay off the property or they would be charged with criminal trespass.

 

 

 

All other offenses

A caller Tuesday morning in the 700 block of East Van Buren Street in Washington reported there was a power line on the ground across Van Buren Street. An officer responded. This was a cable TV line, and the line was removed from the roadway. Mediacom was notified.
