Arrests

Ernest Lee Shaw, 20, of Washington, was arrested Thursday morning in the 200 block of East Washington Street in Washington on charges of fourth-degree theft and fraudulent use of a credit/debit card.

 

Traffic accident

A caller Thursday morning in the 2900 block of Highway 22 in Riverside reported a pork company truck met her on the highway, and a rock flew off, hitting her windshield. There is some shattered glass. There were no injuries, although she had small children with her. The truck was last seen headed westbound. An officer responded. The windshield was not shattered – just a small area on the driver side. The caller was advised to contact the pork company, or have her insurance company do that. Documentation was made.

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 100 block of Fifth Street in Kalona reported someone backed into their vehicle. There were no injuries. They had exchanged information, and the other party needed to leave for an appointment. An officer spoke with the caller. The accident occurred on private property, and both of the parties were provided the call-for-service number for insurance purposes. The incident was documented.

A caller Thursday night at Lexington Boulevard and 230th Street in Washington reported hitting a deer and the deer was still alive. There were no injuries to vehicle occupants. An officer responded. The caller was given a state accident report, and the vehicle was drivable. The officer was unable to locate the deer.

 

Traffic other

A caller Thursday afternoon at East Jefferson Street and South Second Avenue in Washington reported a woman sitting in a red Alero, waving her hands. An officer spoke with the driver. Her vehicle died on her, and she finally got it started and took it home. There was no problem.

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 200 block of West Washington Street in Washington reported a truck with a trailer on the back with a jet ski on it that had been parked diagonally in front of his business for more than an hour. No one was inside it. An officer responded and was unable to locate the vehicle.

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 100 block of West Tyler Street in Washington reported vehicles that were not properly parked, and requested an officer. An officer responded and issued a parking citation to one vehicle.

A caller Thursday night at 295th Street and Redwood Avenue in Washington reported vehicles possibly mud-running. Officers responded. Kennedy Shive, 23, of Washington, was cited for driving under suspension, first offense, and was issued a warning for trespassing on a Level B road. A warning was also issued to another subject at the same time and location for trespassing on a Level B road. The vehicles were to remain there until the road dried and they could be removed.

A citation was issued Friday morning to Erin Wade, of Brighton, for unlawful passing of a school bus, in an incident that occurred Tuesday evening in the 400 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington. A court date was set.

 

Disabled vehicles

A caller Thursday afternoon on North Second Avenue in Washington reported a disabled vehicle, and had a towing company coming to remove the vehicle.

An officer reported being out with a vehicle with hazard lights on, Thursday afternoon at 290th Street and Wayland Road in Washington. The officer advised they were fine. They just bumped their hazard lights and could not turn them off.

A caller Friday morning in the 3300 block of Wayland Road in Mount Pleasant reported a silver Pontiac Bonneville was partially in the roadway. There were no plates, and the front wheel was missing. Officers responded. The vehicle was towed to the towing service location.  Conditions of release were that the vehicle be properly registered and be insured, and that the tow bill be paid.

 

Animal complaint

A caller Thursday morning in the 300 block of North Benton Street in Brighton reported a loose Min Pin type of dog, and believed it belonged to a residence on North Benton Street. An officer spoke with the owner, who agreed to take care of the problem when she got home. A verbal warning was given, and the owner was advised that next time might result in a citation.

A caller Thursday afternoon at Coppock Road and 300th Street in Washington reported a dead deer in the roadway. An officer removed the deer from the road.

 

Assault

A caller Thursday night in the 700 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported a black male and female were walking down the street, yelling and fighting with each other. The male party did hit the female. Officers located the female party. She refused to cooperate, and the male party was not at the residence. The incident was documented.

 

DP & Q

A caller Thursday night in the 600 block of 14th Street in Kalona reported teenagers at the neighbor’s house were being loud. They were outside. An officer responded and was unable to locate anyone in the area.

 

Intimidation/harassment

A caller Thursday morning in the 600 block of North Avenue B in Washington reported there was a female subject who was yelling at him and cursing, and he requested that an officer speak with her. The female, the caller’s mother, planned to give him a ride back to Chicago. There should be no further problems.

 

A caller Thursday night in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona reported receiving threatening messages on snapchat. An officer responded and spoke to the caller. This was continuation of an ongoing issue that the officer was handling. Documentation was made.

 

Public service contacts

An officer reported being out with a female subject walking, Thursday morning at Highway 1 and West Fifth Street in Washington. The subject was directed to the square area, where she was going to wait for her ride.

 

Runaways/missing person

A caller Thursday evening in the 500 block of Fifth Street in Wellman reported that her son did not come home from school that day. She had information that he was at a residence with a female juvenile. Officers responded. The juvenile was located. A report will be filed.

 

All other theft

A caller Thursday morning in the 1000 block of Walnut Avenue in Riverside reported his Ford F-150 was broken into overnight. His work computer and a drone were stolen. An officer responded. A report will be filed.

 

All other offenses

A caller Thursday night in the 500 block of East Madison Street in Brighton requested to speak to a deputy about a civil issue with a recently sold trailer. He also wanted a deputy to speak to the occupant of the trailer and advise them they were no longer welcome on his property. An officer spoke with the caller. The property matter was a civil issue, and the caller no longer wanted the deputy to speak to the occupant.
