Robert Lawrence Christopher, 35, of Washington, was arrested Thursday morning on a Linn County warrant for failure to appear for a final pretrial conference on a charge of third-degree theft.

Colton Scott Keyes, 23, of Iowa City, was arrested Thursday evening at A Avenue and Ninth Street in Kalona for driving under suspension, interference with official acts, and assaulting a police officer. The subject was also wanted out of Johnson County for second-degree theft.


Traffic accidents

A caller in the 800 block of North Fourth Avenue in Washington reported Thursday morning that a vehicle had struck his vehicle. Over $1,500 damage was reported. Jose Manuel Mendez-Ibarra of Washington was cited for operating without a driver’s license, failure to yield half the roadway and no insurance.

A caller reported Thursday evening that a horse and buggy ran into her vehicle at Sixth Street and B Avenue in Kalona. The buggy continued but there was damage to the vehicle. Officers responded. A state accident report will be filed.

A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported Thursday evening in the 3100 block of Coppock Road in Coppock. Officers were advised.


Disabled vehicles

A wrecker was requested Thursday morning at Highway 218 and 230th Street in Ainsworth for an overdue parked vehicle. The vehicle was towed.


Traffic other

A jeep was reported stuck Thursday afternoon at Birch Avenue and Highway 92 in Keota. Other trucks were reported there trying to pull it out. No one was around. Officers will send the registered owner a letter reference the Level B road ordinance.

A stop sign was reported down Friday morning at East Madison and South Seventh Avenue in Washington. Officers located the sign and fixed it temporarily. City crews were notified.


Fire calls

Burnt smell was reported Thursday evening in the 800 block of West Monroe Street in Washington. Officers responded. A resident had burned some food.


All other thefts

A camera was reported missing from a residence in the 100 block of B Avenue in Kalona Thursday afternoon. Officers spoke with the caller. A family member possibly has the camera. The incident was documented.

A cell phone was reported lost in the 100 block of West Washington Street in Washington. The staff told the caller that another person had claimed the phone. Officers were advised. The incident was documented.



A caller in the 700 block of West Second Street in Washington reported Thursday afternoon receiving 18 calls offering her a $50,000 loan. Officers called the number and the subject was uncooperative. The incident was documented.

A caller in the 100 block of West Fountain Street in Brighton reported Thursday night someone was calling and texting his phone. Officers advised the caller of the proper use of 911 and made contact with the other subject.


Animal complaints

A dog was reported tied up outside Friday morning in the 200 block of West Tyler Street in Washington. Officers spoke to the owner. The dog was taken inside.



A caller reported Thursday night that some kind of horn had been going off at North Ella and Saint Mary Streets in Riverside. Officers were unable to locate.


All other offenses

An unknown issue was reported Thursday morning in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington. A subject later showed up at the sheriff’s office. Officers spoke with the subject and she was released to her father.
