Kelby James Chalupa, 23, of Washington, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in the 500 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington on a Linn County warrant for revocation of probation on charge of drug tax stamp violation, and escape from custody on an original charge of failure to affix drug tax stamp.

Brandy Leigh Fulton, 34, of Iowa City, was arrested Tuesday night in the 4500 block of Melrose Avenue in Iowa City on a Washington County warrant for failure to appear on mittimus on an original charge of possession of marijuana, third or subsequent offense, and possession of prescription drug or device without description.

Skyler Eugene Beal, 20, of Brighton, was arrested Wednesday morning in the 400 block of South Harrison Street in Brighton on a charge of domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury.


Traffic accident

An accident involving a semi was reported Tuesday morning at Highway 1 and 170th Street in Washington. There were no injuries, and the highway was not blocked. An officer responded. Damage was more than $1,500, and a state accident report was filed. Savannah Stout, of Wellman, was cited for failure to maintain control. Her vehicle was privately towed.

A caller Tuesday afternoon at E Avenue and Fifth Street in Kalona reported a two-vehicle car accident with no injuries. An officer responded. Damage was more than $1,500, and a state accident report will be filed. The vehicles were removed from the scene. Abigail Schrock, of Kalona, was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway.


Traffic stop serious

An officer reported being in pursuit of a vehicle, Wednesday morning at West Fountain Street and North Mechanic Street in Brighton. The vehicle wrecked in Henry County at Highway 78 and Franklin Avenue. The male subject left on foot. A Washington County officer, Henry County, Iowa State Patrol and Division of Criminal Investigation also responded. Charges are pending.


Traffic other

A caller Tuesday night at Seventh Avenue and 11th Street in Wellman reported that a trailer was left near the corner of Seventh and 11th and causing a travel problem for other vehicles. An officer responded. The area was tight, but nothing was illegal. There was no problem.


Disabled vehicles

Dispatch received a report of a vehicle that had not been moved for two to three months, Tuesday afternoon at 220th Street and Highway 218 in Ainsworth. An officer responded. Documentation was made.


Fire calls

A caller Tuesday morning in the 500 block of Highway 1 in Washington reported a general fire alarm at a business. It was a water flow alarm. Washington Fire Department and officers responded to assist. A sprinkler had been knocked off.


Animal complaint

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 800 block of West Monroe Street in Washington reported picking up a husky dog that was running loose in the roadway. It was being taken to the dog pound. An officer was advised and planned to attempt to contact the owners. The dog was not to be released until the owner received a citation for dog at large.

A caller Tuesday afternoon at South Fourth Avenue and East Jefferson Street in Washington reported a loose German shepherd with a pink collar and a rabies tag. Another subject had the dog contained. An officer and the dog catcher responded. The dog was taken to the pound.

A caller Tuesday night in the 1100 block of Highway 92 in Keota reported a deer with back legs broken. An officer responded to the area and was unable to locate any deer.



A caller Tuesday morning in the 900 block of East Madison Street in Washington reported she was assaulted by a male subject approximately 15 minutes earlier. Location of the male was unknown. Officers responded. Charges will be filed on a Washington resident for serious assault.


Suspicious activity

A caller Wednesday morning in the 500 block of West Jefferson Street in Washington reported suspicious activity. Officers responded. Everything was OK.



A caller Wednesday morning in the 300 block of South Farmer Street in Brighton reported a male subject just broke her living room window out. He left in a silver or gray sedan. Officers responded. Charges are pending.


All other offenses

A caller Tuesday afternoon at West Fifth Street and West Third Street in Washington reported an intoxicated male walking on the roadway. An officer located the subject. Austin Allen Chalupa, 18, of Washington, was cited for possession of alcohol under the legal age.
