Arrests

Matthew Mark Smith, 23, of Brighton, was arrested Wednesday night in the 2500 block of Highway 1 in Washington on a charge of domestic abuse assault.

Kaitlyn Lee Shapcott, 24, of Hills, was arrested Wednesday night in the 200 block of Adams Street in Hills on a Washington County warrant for failure to appear for mittimus on original charge of possession of controlled substance – marijuana, first offense. Further charges are pending for DCI lab results.

Traffic accident

A caller Wednesday afternoon at Highway 1 and West Fifth Street in Washington reported a possible two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 1 and Lexington Boulevard. No one appeared to be injured. An officer responded. A vehicle had lost a tire that hit another vehicle.  It may also have hit a second vehicle, but it was no longer on scene upon the officer’s arrival. Documentation was made.

Traffic other

A caller Wednesday morning in the 900 block of North Marion Avenue in Washington reported a Honda Accord and a boat and trailer had not been moved in several months. An officer responded and chalked the driver side back tire on the vehicle and trailer. The officer advised that the day shift should check back on Thursday to see if they were still there.

Disabled vehicles

An officer reported being out with a disabled vehicle, Wednesday afternoon at North 12th Avenue and East 15th Street in Washington. No one was around the vehicle. It was locked and secured.

Fire calls

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 500 block of Highway 1 in Washington reported a fire alarm. Washington Fire and officers responded. The fire company was on scene working on the alarms. There was no fire.

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 1300 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington reported a smoke alarm. The fire department was disregarded. Everything was fine.

Animal complaint

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 800 block of West Monroe Street in Washington reported a dog across the street that was off leash. It was described as a German shepherd-type dog. An officer responded and requested the dog catcher for a large husky with a red collar as well as an underground-fence shock collar. The dog was taken to the pound. The owner must show proof of rabies vaccination and speak with an officer, who will issue a written warning for dog at large.

Assault

A caller Wednesday morning in the 300 block of West Washington Street in Brighton reported being assaulted by her son, who had left the residence with her husband’s friend. Officers responded. A report will be filed. Assault charges will be filed.

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 300 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported that their juvenile daughter was assaulted by a juvenile male. An officer responded and spoke with all parties and their parents. The incident was resolved.

A caller Wednesday night in the 300 block of East Third Street in Riverside reported the neighbor spat in his face. Officers responded and spoke to the parties. They agreed to remain separated. The caller did not want to pursue charges. The incident was documented.

Fraud

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 2000 block of Nutmeg Avenue in Washington reported fraud. An officer spoke to the caller and her son. The information was documented.

Intimidation/harassment

An officer received a report of harassment, Thursday morning in the 1600 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington. The officer spoke with both subjects involved. The male was advised to stop calling the female. Documentation was made.

Welfare check

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 1200 block of Maple Avenue in Kalona requested a welfare check on two children. Officers responded and spoke to the female. She had both of her children and would be staying with her parents.

All other theft

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 100 block of North Washington Street in Riverside reported the theft of her mother’s wedding ring, which possibly happened over the holidays. An officer spoke with the caller. A report will be filed.

A caller Wednesday evening in the 60 block of North Washburn Street in Riverside reported a stolen trailer. It was described as an 8-foot-by-12-foot black trailer with no floor and no plates on the trailer. The trailer was not registered to the current owner. An officer responded and spoke to the caller. The trailer was owned by the caller’s father-in-law, and it was possible he had taken the trailer. Documentation was made.

All other offenses

A caller Wednesday night in the 500 block of South Marion Avenue in Washington reported that a female was in the street fighting with a neighbor. Officers responded. Two juveniles got into a disagreement, each accusing the other of being too loud, and the parents got involved. All parties were advised to leave one another alone.

An officer requested a call for service for absence of custody, Thursday morning in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington. A report will be filed.
