Arrests

Elyssa Terri Usefof, 27, of Washington, was arrested Thursday morning in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington on a charge of fifth-degree theft.

Tristan Adam Downing, 21, of Fairfield, was arrested Thursday morning in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington on a Washington County warrant for violation of probation on an original charge of possession of controlled substance -- marijuana, first offense, and operating while intoxicated, first offense.

Dakota Dwayne Tusing, 27, of Mount Pleasant, was arrested Thursday afternoon at West Fifth Street and Highway 1 in Washington on a charge of driving under suspension.

Traffic accident

State Department of Transportation reported a white Ford Ranger in the median, Thursday afternoon at Old White Way and Highway 218 in Crawfordsville. There were no injuries. The vehicle was not drivable, and the operator had a wrecker coming. A state report will be filed. John Howell, of Keokuk, was cited for failure to maintain control.

An officer reported being out with a vehicle in the median near the Riverside exit, Thursday afternoon at Highway 218 and the Highway 22 ramp in Riverside. The vehicle lost control and entered the median. A tire was damaged when it hit a culvert. The occupants were going to change the tire and be on their way.

A caller Thursday afternoon at West Madison Street and West Main Street in Washington reported a vehicle in the ditch that had struck a pole. The accident was non-reportable. The West Main and Highway 1 sign were damaged. Information will be exchanged, and the city will be notified. The operator had someone coming to remove the vehicle, and he was given a ride to work.

Traffic other

A caller Thursday morning in the 200 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported a red Monte Carlo parked partially in the roadway. An officer responded. Documentation was made.

An officer reported being out with a vehicle in the median, Thursday night at 175th Street and Highway 218 in Riverside. The officer was able to get them back on the road and on their way. There was no damage to the vehicle.

Disabled vehicles

A caller Thursday evening at 170th Street and Riverside Road in Riverside reported a vehicle on the side of the road. An officer responded. Everything was fine, and the driver was going to be on his way shortly.

An officer reported an unoccupied disabled vehicle, Thursday night at 130th Street and Highway 1 in Kalona. It was added to the system.

Fire calls

A caller Thursday night in the 80 block of West Second Street in Riverside reported trying to thaw pipes from the back of the residence, and there was smoke going inside the house. No flames were showing. Riverside Fire Department and Kalona were paged. Riverside advised to page Ainsworth for standby at their Fire Hall. All fire units were requested to be en route, and were disregarded by Riverside Fire.

Bad checks

A caller Thursday morning in the 1100 block of Kola Avenue in Kalona reported receiving a bad check from a foreclosed account. An officer spoke with the caller, who agreed to contact the Civil Department to begin a 10-day certified notice process. Documentation only was made for the time being.

Fraud

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 700 block of East Second Street in Washington reported being harassed on the phone by subjects who said they were coming to her residence. An officer responded to the residence. The subjects called while the officer was there. He spoke with them, advising that they were to stop calling the resident.

Intimidation/harassment

A caller Thursday night in the 200 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported being threatened by the parent of an employee. The juvenile was with the caller. An officer responded and spoke with the caller and the male juvenile. The officer transported the male to his residence and released him to his parents.

Suspicious activity

A caller Thursday night in the 900 block of East Madison Street in Washington reported hearing something outside, and her dog was barking. Officers responded and checked the area and were unable to locate anything.

Trespass

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 800 block of North Marion Avenue in Washington reported a subject who would not leave the residence. An officer responded. The parties separated.

Welfare check

A caller Thursday morning in the 2700 block of Highway 1 in Washington reported his son just called and needed help. Officers responded. The father took his son to Hillcrest for an appointment.

A caller Thursday morning in the 600 block of East Polk Street in Washington requested a welfare check on a resident. An officer responded. Documentation was made.

A caller Thursday night in the 1100 block of Highway 92 in Keota requested a welfare check. An officer responded, and the subject was fine.

All other theft

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 1500 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported a gas drive-off of $47.99, by the same subject who had driven off without paying for $44.46 worth of gas on Sunday. The subject had a hood over the head while putting gas into the vehicle, a red Jeep with Henry County license plates. The vehicle left at a high rate of speed, eastbound on Highway 92. There had been a 15-minute time delay. An officer made contact with the registered owner, who advised that the vehicle had been loaned out to some friends. The subjects were to return to pay for the gas.

All other offenses

A caller Thursday night in the 1600 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington reported that his chin was bleeding. An ambulance and an officer responded. There was no transport. The complaint was unfounded. A report will be filed.
