Douglas James Smith, 57, of Washington, was arrested Wednesday morning in the 2900 block of Highway 1 in Washington for drug tax stamp violation, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and possession of a controlled substance.

Dustin Everett Curtis, 28, of Washington, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in the 300 block of West Washington Boulevard in Washington for failure to appear on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct.


Charges filed

Charges of false reporting were filed Wednesday afternoon on Jennifer Triska, 17, of Brighton.


Traffic accidents

A caller reported Wednesday morning that a vehicle hit the back end of his vehicle at East Washington Street and South 10th Avenue in Washington. Damage was over $1,500. Nathan Kleopfer of Washington was cited for failure to yield while turning left.

A semi reportedly overturned Thursday morning at Highway 218 and 335th Street in Crawfordsville. Officers, Crawfordsville Fire, Crawfordsville QRS, Washington County Rescue and Washington County Ambulance responded. Henry County assisted with traffic control. Washington County Ambulance transported the driver to Washington County Hospital. The semi was towed. A state accident report will be filed.


Traffic other

A suspected hit and run accident was reported Wednesday afternoon in the 800 block of Third Street in Kalona. The caller reported that it happened between 2 and 4:30 p.m. Dec. 31, 2012. The incident was documented.


Fire calls

A chimney fire was reported Wednesday morning in the 2100 block of Johnson/Washington Road in Kalona. Kalona Fire, Kalona QRS and officers responded. The fire was extinguished.



A caller in the 600 block of North Sixth Avenue in Washington reported Wednesday afternoon being the victim of fraud. Officers spoke with the caller.


All other thefts

A possible identity theft was reported Wednesday evening in the 400 block of North Grant Street in Crawfordsville. Officers spoke with the caller. An employee from a business used the caller’s credit card. The business will investigate the theft.


Intoxicated pedestrian

An intoxicated subject reportedly left apartments in the 300 block of North Marion Avenue in Washington on foot Wednesday afternoon. Officers were unable to locate.


Animal complaint

A barking dog was reported Wednesday afternoon in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona. Officers were unable to locate the owner.
