Arrests

John David Harrill Jr., 46, of Washington, was arrested Thursday afternoon in the 200 block of West Main Street in Washington on a Washington County warrant for possession of controlled substance – marijuana, third or subsequent offense.

Traffic accident

A caller Thursday morning in the 2000 block of 300th Street in Washington reported a car-vs.-deer accident on Highway 1. The vehicle was drivable, but had damage to the front end. The accident was documented, and an officer was advised.

A caller Thursday morning at South Wiley Boulevard and Highway 92 in Washington reported a two-vehicle accident at the intersection. There were no injuries and the vehicles had moved out of the intersection. Damage was under $1,500. Information was exchanged. Richard Egli, of Washington, was cited for not stopping at a safe and assured distance.

An officer reported being out with an accident, Thursday morning at South Fourth Avenue and East Washington Street in Washington. The officer then requested an ambulance to check out a male subject involved. An ambulance transported one patient to Washington County Hospital in Washington. Damages were over $1,500, and a state report will be filed. One vehicle was towed. Charges are pending on one driver for failure to stop at a safe, assured distance.

A caller Thursday morning in the 100 block of Ninth Street in Kalona reported a traffic accident. Someone hit her Mercury Mariner. An officer responded and requested Kalona QRS to check out a female subject. Kalona QRS advised an ambulance to disregard. The Mercury Mariner was towed. Damages amounted to more than $1,500, and a state report will be filed. Mark Escher, of Kalona, was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway, and failure to prove insurance accident-related.

A caller Thursday afternoon reported a two-vehicle accident in the 200 block of McCreedy Drive in Washington. The vehicles were off the roadway. Damage was less than $1,500, and information was exchanged.

A caller Thursday afternoon at Wayland Road and 297th Place in Washington reported that a car went into the ditch and into some trees. The caller made contact with the driver, who said he was not injured. An officer responded and requested an ambulance for a subject with a laceration to the arm. The ambulance advised that the subject refused transport. A towing company was contacted to tow the vehicle, and a state report will be filed. County Roads was notified of some damage to curve signs at the location.

A caller Thursday evening at North Marion Avenue and West 13th Street in Washington reported that a vehicle hit a stop sign at the intersection. Damage was under $1,500. The city was contacted to look at the sign and assess damage. The vehicle was removed from the ditch.

A caller Thursday night at North Seventh Avenue and East Main Street in Washington reported that he struck a pole. There was no damage to the pole, but there was damage to the vehicle. The caller requested documentation for insurance purposes. Documentation was made.

Traffic other

A caller Thursday afternoon at Birch Avenue and 190th Street in Keota reported a disabled Nissan Sentra had been disabled for a couple of days and was about 3 feet into the travel portion of the roadway. An officer responded. The vehicle was towed, to be released upon payment of the tow bill.

An officer reported being out with a vehicle in the ditch, Thursday night at 220th Street and Tulip Avenue in Ainsworth. No one was around. The officer tagged the vehicle and added it to the system.

Disabled vehicles

A disabled vehicle was reported, Thursday night in the 1800 block of Highway 1 in Washington. The occupants got their tire changed.

Fire calls

A caller Thursday night in the 300 block of North Avenue C in Washington reported that his car caught fire, but they put the fire out with snow and unhooked the battery. The caller requested documentation for insurance. Documentation was made.

Disorderly conduct

A caller Thursday night in the 500 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported that her son and his wife were arguing, and the situation could possibly get out of control. Two officers responded. The incident was verbal only. The female left the residence.

Intimidation/harassment

A caller Thursday evening in the 1300 block of Tulip Avenue in Riverside reported he was being harassed by his landlord. An officer spoke with the caller, and a message was left with the landlord. A second officer spoke with the landlord, who did not know how to text. The officer planned to forward information to the officer who had spoken with the caller.

Search warrant

An officer reported being out in reference to executing a search warrant, Thursday morning in the 1900 block of 155th Street in Wellman. Five additional officers also responded. A report will be filed.

Suspicious activity

A caller Thursday morning in the 400 block of East Polk Street in Washington reported a problem with a subject. An officer responded. The subject was given a ride out of Washington County.

Welfare check

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 1200 block of Maple Avenue in Kalona requested a welfare check on a subject who had not shown up for work. An officer checked the residence and was unable to locate the subject.

A caller Thursday night in the 100 block of West Washington Street in Washington requested a welfare check on a subject who said he was sleeping in his car by the library and had no place to stay. He was also making suicidal comments. An officer responded and was unable to locate the vehicle or the subject.

Trespass

A caller Thursday night in the 500 block of 11th Street in Kalona reported that a female subject came to her apartment to pick up some items, and then would not leave. The caller requested a deputy. The caller then called back to advise that the female subject had left.

All other theft

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 100 block of First Street in Kalona reported a gas drive-off of $10. The vehicle was a white Honda Santa Fe, with a male driver, last seen southbound on Highway 1. An officer was advised and checked the area and was unable to locate the vehicle.

All other offenses

A caller Thursday morning at Highway 22 and Kola Avenue in Kalona reported that a bus driver stated there was a pile of hay in the roadway that could cause a problem with traffic. An officer checked the area. There was a pile of corn stalks. DOT was requested to respond and clean off the roadway.

An officer reported a possible case of elder abuse in the City of Washington, Thursday afternoon in the 200 block of East Washington Street in Washington. The report was unfounded. Documentation was made.
