Coty Lane Waldrip, 19, of Brighton was arrested Tuesday afternoon in the 500 block of Highway 1 in Washington on a Jefferson County warrant for violation of probation on original charge of eight counts of ongoing criminal conduct, and unauthorized use of credit card.

Traffic accident

A caller Tuesday morning in the 400 block of B Avenue in Kalona reported a traffic accident with no injuries. An officer responded. The accident occurred on private property. Insurance information was exchanged.

Traffic stop serious

An officer reported being at a vehicle stop, Wednesday morning at 220 th Street and Riverside Road in Riverside. Additional officers also responded. Brian Lee Humston, 44, of Washington was cited into court for driving under suspension, third offense.

Traffic other

A caller Tuesday morning in the 2000 block of Highway 218 in Ainsworth reported a car spun out of control and was in the ditch, southbound on Highway 218 north of G36. The operator claimed he was not injured. An officer responded. The subject blew a tire and had driven out of the ditch up to the shoulder. Repairs were being made.

Fire calls

A caller Tuesday morning in the 200 block of West Second Street in Washington reported a gas leak. Officers, an ambulance, Washington Fire Department and Alliant Energy responded. The gas leak was fixed.

Animal complaint

A caller Tuesday morning in the 1600 block of East Washington Street in Washington requested assistance with her dog. An officer responded and assisted the caller.

A caller Tuesday night in the 1300 block of Deer Run Drive in Riverside reported the neighbor’s dog was loose again, the same dog that was reported the previous evening. An officer responded. The dog was on its own property upon the officer’s arrival. The officer spoke with the caller as well as the dog owners. The owners were advised that another complaint would result in a citation’s being issued.


A caller Tuesday morning in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona reported someone climbed into a window last night and got into the trailer. An officer responded. No forced entry was detected, and nothing was missing. There were no suspects. The caller requested extra patrol.

A caller Wednesday morning in the 1900 block of Vine Avenue in Ainsworth reported a subject was inside his residence. The subject left in a dark-colored smaller SUV, going southbound. An officer responded. The incident is under investigation.

Disorderly conduct

Multiple reports of a subject out of control were received, Tuesday morning in the 1600 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington. Officers responded. The subject calmed down, and no charges were filed. One subject was advised she was not allowed back on the property or she would be arrested for trespass.

Suspicious activity

A caller Tuesday night at 150th Street and Vine Avenue in Riverside reported a male with a backpack and a female with a pink shirt were walking eastbound. They appeared to be young adults or teenagers. An officer responded and located the subjects. Everything was fine. They were just going for a walk.

Welfare check

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 500 block of East Madison Street in Brighton requested assistance with a welfare check. An officer responded and assisted DHS.

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 3000 block of Highway 22 in Riverside requested a welfare check. An officer responded. The subject would not come to the door. A neighbor said that he saw the subject pull into the residence that morning. The officer left his card, requesting the subject to call back in.

A caller Tuesday night in the 500 block of D Avenue in Kalona requested a welfare check on children supposed to be visiting their father, who lives in Pella and was not with them. There were four children there. An officer responded and checked the welfare of the children. The children were OK and were with their father’s fiancée.

All other offenses

Des Moines County reported locating a stolen trailer, Tuesday afternoon in the 400 block of North Third in Burlington. An officer was advised. The trailer was towed by Des Moines County. The owner was contacted. He was going to stop by the center to get the tow company’s information.

A caller Tuesday evening in the 300 block of West Jefferson Street in Washington reported a female broke the window to her house and tried to take her own youngsters. She left on a bike, wearing a camouflage tank top. Officers responded. The female headed on to her mother’s house. Everything was fine.

A caller Wednesday morning in the 1200 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported a subject showed up at his residence asking for a ride. Officers responded. The subject was taken to the North Junction.
