Arrests

Joshua John Brown, 33, of Wayland was arrested Thursday afternoon at East Fountain Street and 330th Street in Brighton on charges of driving while license under suspension, possession of controlled substance – marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also cited for expired vehicle registration.

Joshua John Brown, 33, was arrested Thursday evening in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington on a charge of operating while intoxicated, second offense.

Jerry Ezequiel Mendoza Jr., 23, of Washington was arrested Thursday night in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington on a Washington County warrant on controlled substance violation, failure to affix drug stamp, and possession of controlled substance – marijuana, first offense.

Traffic accident

A caller Thursday morning in the 1300 block of Highway 1 in Kalona reported being involved in an accident in a private driveway. She had no injuries, although she was unable to get out of her vehicle. An officer responded. Damage was minimal. Information was exchanged, since the accident occurred on private property.

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported an accident with no injuries. Both vehicles pulled into their lot. An officer responded and requested an ambulance for a subject complaining of stomach pain. An ambulance responded. There was no transport. A state accident report was filed, and there was one minor injury. Tony Butler of Washington was cited for no insurance accident-related. A juvenile subject was cited for failure to yield upon making a left-hand turn.

A caller Thursday night in the 1000 block of East Second Street in Washington reported someone hit her granddaughter’s parked Ford Focus. The vehicle was swerving all over the roadway, but she did not have a vehicle description except that it was a small red car. An officer responded. Documentation was made for the time being.

Disabled vehicles

An officer reported being out with a broken-down vehicle, Thursday morning at Highway 22 and Palm Avenue in Kalona. The officer advised that the driver was tired and would be on his way shortly.

Fire calls

Dispatch reported a commercial fire alarm, Thursday night in the 500 block of North 12th Avenue in Washington. Washington Fire Department, officers and Washington County Rescue responded, and an ambulance was on standby. There was a malfunction with the alarm. Two key holders responded to fix the alarm problem.

Animal complaint

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 700 block of 11th Avenue in Wellman reported a dog that had been outside all day and night, with little water and minimal shade. An officer responded and was unable to locate the dog.

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 1600 block of Riverside Road in Riverside reported missing a dog, which was taken on Tuesday along with the stake and the chain. It was a male Weimaraner. An officer was advised for documentation purposes.

An officer reported being out at an address in reference to an animal complaint, Thursday night in the 700 block of Fifth Street in Kalona. The officer advised that a dog jumped out of the fence. He placed the dog back inside the pen and made contact with the owner and advised them of the incident.

A caller Thursday night in the 1300 block of Deer Run Drive on Riverside reported the neighbor’s dog was loose and was running around again. An officer responded. The dog was back in the owner’s yard upon the officer’s arrival. The officer made contact with the owner via phone and advised him of the complaint.

A caller Thursday night in the 300 block of Washington Street in Ainsworth reported a neighbor’s dog was out in the storm and had been left out for two weeks. An officer responded. The dog had water. The food bowl was empty, but the dog did not seem malnourished. The officer planned to have the day shift personnel check again on Friday.

Assault

A caller Thursday morning in the 400 block of East Polk Street in Washington reported a possible assault victim was in the emergency room in reference to an incident the previous evening. An officer responded. The report was unfounded.

Disorderly conduct

Dispatch received a report of a tenant who was throwing furniture off the deck, Thursday afternoon in the 400 block of Eighth Avenue in Wellman. An officer responded. There was no furniture thrown off the patio. Items were piled up next to a vehicle, which the subject could possibly be moving.

DP & Q

A caller Friday morning in the 500 block of East Madison Street reported loud music. An officer responded and was unable to locate.

All other theft

A caller Thursday night in the 1700 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported the theft of an iPhone 7 that happened the previous day. The caller had the suspect on video. An officer responded. A report will be filed.

A caller Thursday night in the 1100 block of Enterprise Drive in Riverside reported that a black male stole two packs of beer. The subject was described as being in his early 20s, wearing a yellow jersey, and with braids in his hair. The incident had happened about half an hour earlier. An officer was advised, and the information was documented.

All other offenses

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 500 block of 11th Street in Kalona reported her boyfriend slammed the refrigerator door on her and was yelling at her. He walked outside --  direction of travel unknown. An officer responded. The incident was verbal only. The officer was unable to locate the male subject, and assisted the female caller with removing some of her items from the home. She was to call back if she needed a civil standby.

An officer reported being out with juveniles who were shooting subjects with CO2 guns, Thursday night in the 600 block of Highway 1 in Washington. Two additional officers also responded. Juveniles were released to their parents, and the guns were seized from the juveniles. Two juveniles will be charged with discharging a BB gun in the city limits.

A subject Thursday night in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard reported a male subject possibly pulled a weapon on a juvenile. Officers responded and spoke with the parent, who advised this did not happen. The report was unfounded.

A caller Thursday night in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona reported a subject who was evicted a month ago was moving her belongings into a lot. She had also harassed the caller a couple of weeks earlier. An officer responded and tried to make contact with other subjects, but they did not come to the door. Extra patrol was requested.
