Mason Kendall Simons, 21, of Fairfield was arrested Monday morning at Highway 61 and Highway 64 in Maquoketa on a Washington County warrant for failure to appear for pretrial on third-degree theft.

Austin Craig Peterson, 20, of Maxwell was arrested Monday afternoon in the 200 block of West Main Street in Washington on a charge of failure to appear for mittimus on an original charge of OWI, first offense.

Warrant arrest

A caller Monday afternoon in the 200 block of “West Main Street in Washington reported a subject was outside who was wanted. An officer responded. The warrant was quashed from Louisa County earlier that morning and their dispatch had not received the order. No arrest took place.

Traffic accident

A caller Monday afternoon at North Fourth Avenue and East Main Street in Washington reported being involved in an accident. There were no injuries, and the roadway was not blocked. An officer responded. A state accident report will be filed. A citation was issued to Steve Nowell of Washington for failure to maintain control.

A caller Monday afternoon in the 800 block of Tam Street in Ainsworth reported a delivery vehicle hit his mailbox, and contacted the post office and the business and advised them of the situation. The caller just wanted documentation. An officer was advised for documentation purposes.

Disabled vehicles

An officer reported being out with a truck pulling a trailer with scrap metal, and it lost a cast-iron stove, Monday morning at East Van Buren Street and South Iowa Avenue in Washington. The subject had help show up, and the item was cleaned up.

Animal complaint

A caller Monday morning at Ginkgo Avenue and Highway 92 in West Chester reported he ran over a pitchfork that fell out of the back of a dump truck type of vehicle. He was driving a company truck, and requested documentation in case there were any damages. An officer was advised for documentation purposes, and DOT and County Roads were contacted.

A caller Monday afternoon at East Third Street and North Sixth Avenue in Washington reported being chased and almost bitten by a dog. The caller was going to wait by the intersection for an officer. An officer responded and was unable to locate anyone in the area.

Barking dog

A caller Monday morning in the 600 block of Ninth Avenue in  Wellman reported a dog in the alley across from his residence appeared to be hurt or tangled up, as it had been barking for 2 ½ hours. An officer responded and spoke to the subject, who was watching her sister’s dog, and the dog was not familiar with the territory. She took the dog inside.

Civil dispute

A caller Monday morning in the 500 block of 11th Street in Kalona reported her “ex” was refusing to return a power surge box for her computer. An officer responded. The item was returned.

DP & Q

A caller Monday night in the 200 block of East Main Street in Washington reported loud music. Officers responded. Subjects were advised to turn the music down. Charges are pending on a juvenile subject per DCI lab results for possession of a controlled substance.

Drug/narcotics violation

A caller Monday morning in the 200 block of West Third Street in Washington reported a strange odor in her apartment building. An officer responded. There was a strange odor, but the officer could not pinpoint what it was from.

Illegal dumping

A caller Monday afternoon in the 1200 block of Industrial Park Drive in Washington reported a male subject was taking items out of their dumpster. An officer responded and contacted the male subject. He was advised not to return to the property.

Runaways/missing person

A caller Monday afternoon in the 2700 block of 285th Street in Washington reported his 12-year-old daughter had walked away from the residence and was last seen wearing a blue shirt and green baggy shorts. An officer responded and located the juvenile.


A caller Monday morning in the 100 block of B Avenue in Kalona reported a male juvenile was on their property and would not leave. The daughter was refusing to come in the house because he was there. An officer responded and transported the male juvenile to “Washington. The juvenile subject was given a verbal trespass warning.

All other offenses

A caller Monday morning in the 700 block of East Main Street in Washington reported locating a bicycle in her backyard behind the garage. It was a small black bike. An officer responded. The owner of the bike was located, and it was returned.

A deputy reported conducting an interview on a subject who failed to appear on his mittimus, Monday night in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington. The deputy advised that the information would be forwarded to the county attorney. A report will be filed.

A caller Tuesday morning in the 700 block of West Third Street in Washington reported that his daughter’s boyfriend was at the residence, and the caller wanted him to leave. Officers responded and gave the male juvenile a ride to his residence and released him to his parents.

An officer reported locating a blue and white Huffy Rockit bicycle, Tuesday morning in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington. The officer transported the bike to the bike shed.
