Arrests

Skyler Randall Overstreet, 24, of Iowa City was arrested Tuesday night in the 4500 block of Melrose Avenue in Iowa City on a Washington County warrant for probation on an original charge of second-degree theft.

Traffic accident

A caller Tuesday morning at First Street and Highway 22 in Kalona reported a hit-and-run. His semitractor-trailer was struck by large farm equipment traveling on the roadway, and there were damages to the semi. An officer and an IHP officer responded. The operator to the sprayer was located. The incident is being handled by State Patrol.

A two-vehicle accident with no injuries was reported, Tuesday morning in the 200 block of West Main Street in Washington, between a silver Ford Edge vs. a pickup with trailer. One vehicle backed into another. A state accident report will be filed.

A caller Tuesday morning at South Seventh Avenue and East Washington Street in Washington reported a traffic accident with a dark gray Neon that hit a stop sign and was in a yard. There were no injuries. An officer responded. Damage was under $1,500. City maintenance was contacted about the stop sign’s being knocked down. William Joseph Smithburg of Washington was cited for improper use of lane.

A caller Wednesday morning at Highway 92 and Ivy Avenue in West Chester reported a car vs. deer accident on Highway 92 about 1 mile east of West Chester. There were no injuries to the vehicle occupants. The vehicle was not drivable. Parts of the vehicle were all over the roadway, and the deer was dead along the roadway. An officer responded. Damages amounted to more than $1,500. The car was towed.

Animal complaint

A caller Tuesday afternoon at 230th Street and Riverside Road in Washington reported a cow out in the roadway. An officer responded. The owners were already getting the cow back into the pen.

A caller Tuesday night in the 100 block of South Farmer Street in Brighton reported a pitbull mix dog running loose. An officer responded and spoke with the owners. They were given a verbal warning for dog at large.

Assault

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 1400 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported an assault between two employees. Both parties were separated. Charges are pending.

Barking dog

A caller Tuesday night in the 600 block of North Fourth Avenue in Washington reported a barking dog that was wrapped up and couldn’t get untangled. Someone untangled the dog before an officer’s arrival. The officer spoke with the caller, and everything was then OK.

Disorderly conduct

A caller Tuesday afternoon at West Washington Street and South Marion Avenue in Washington reported a male subject was yelling at a female in Central Park by the fountain. An officer spoke with subjects, who had separated. This was a continuation from a previous call.

A caller Tuesday night in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington reported an inmate was damaging property in his cell. Officers responded. Charges are pending on the subject, and report will be filed.

Family offense non-violent

Callers Tuesday afternoon in the 500 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported a verbal argument among family members. Officers responded. The situation was verbal only.

Intimidation/harassment

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona reported there were two females at a nearby lot, yelling at her and harassing her, and requested that a deputy speak with them. An officer spoke with all parties. They were advised to have no further contact.

Suspicious activity

A caller Wednesday morning in the 1900 block of Larch Avenue in Washington reported there was a car sitting by the stop sign and it had been there for 10 minutes. A citation was issued to Jacob Dylan Wickenkamp, 18, of Keota for 0.02 violation and possession of alcohol under legal age.

Vandalism

A caller Wednesday morning in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington reported an inmate causing damage in a cell. Officers responded. The subject then assaulted a jailer and punched a window area with his hand. Charges are pending on the subject for assault.

All other offenses

A caller Tuesday morning in the 1200 block of First Avenue in Wellman reported a moped by the tennis courts that had been sitting there for a couple of days. An officer located the moped and the owner. The moped was going to be removed from the area soon, and City Hall was notified.

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 600 block of East Main Street in Washington reported a tree landed on power lines. An officer and Alliant Energy responded to assist.

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 1300 block of 145th Street in Wellman reported that a subject took her dog to work with him. The caller located the dog, and it was inside the vehicle with the windows up. An officer responded and assisted with getting the dog back. The owner was given the dog back.

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported a juvenile wearing a blue shirt and black pants was refusing to leave the pool after being disruptive. An officer responded. The juvenile was gone upon officer’s arrival. The officer located the juvenile and advised him he would no longer be welcome at the pool for the rest of the year.

A caller Tuesday night in the 900 block of East Second Street in Washington reported neighbors were shooting off fireworks in the roadway. An officer responded and spoke with the subjects setting off fireworks. They were advised to keep the fireworks on their property and out of the roadway.
