Lori Anne Rich, 37, of Brighton, was arrested Thursday morning in the 300 block of First Street in Kalona for failure to appear for show cause on a charge of fourth-degree theft.

Patrick Jon Brenneman, 20, of Kalona, was arrested Thursday evening in the 100 block of E Avenue in Kalona for possession of a controlled substance.


Traffic accidents

An accident was reported Thursday afternoon in the 1000 block of West Monroe Street in Washington. A vehicle had struck a parked vehicle. Over $1,500 damage was reported.

A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported Thursday night in the 2600 block of Ivy Avenue in Washington. Officers responded. The incident was documented.

A caller in the 1900 block of Highway 78 in Brighton reported Thursday night that his daughter hit a deer. The vehicle was not drivable but well off the roadway and would be moved in the morning. Officers were advised.


Traffic other

Two trucks pulling trailers in the 3200 block of Coppock Road in Washington were reported driving too fast Thursday afternoon. Officers located the vehicles and spoke with the drivers.


Fire calls

Subjects were reported burning trash with their yard waste Thursday afternoon in the 800 block of North Eighth Avenue in Washington. Officers spoke with the subjects.



A breaking and entering was reported at a storage unit at Highway 22 in Kalona Thursday afternoon. The incident is under investigation.


All other thefts

A bicycle was reported taken off a porch Thursday afternoon in the 700 block of 10th Avenue in Wellman. The incident was documented.

An officer was requested Thursday afternoon in the 500 block of South Highway 1 in Washington in reference to the possible theft of money the caller’s family sent to a subject in Washington. The incident is under investigation.


Animal complaints

A sick cat was reported Thursday evening in the 100 block of North Taylor Street in Brighton. Officers spoke with the owner.

A dog bite was reported Thursday night in the 700 block of East Main Street in Washington. Officers responded to the residence. A report will be filed.



A subject in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona was reported playing loud music Thursday night. Officers responded. The subject was advised to turn the music down.

A caller reported hearing what sounded like an argument from her back porch Friday morning in the 600 block of West Monroe Street in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.


Suspicious activity

A caller in the 200 block of East Fountain Street in Brighton reported Thursday afternoon that a subject did something the caller felt was inappropriate. Officers counseled the subject.
