Arrests

John Patrick Dewispelaere, 32, of Davenport was arrested Wednesday morning in the 2600 block of 220th Street in Washington on charges of OWI second, careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, operating without owner consent, theft second, no insurance accident-related, improper use of lanes and failure to maintain control.

Joel Andrew Meadows, 21, of Coralville was arrested Wednesday morning in the 500 block of First Street S.W. in Cedar Rapids on a Washington County warrant for failure to appear for arraignment on original charge of fourth-degree theft.

Hope Michelle Turner, 38, of Hedrick was arrested Wednesday morning in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington on charges of third-degree burglary and assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.

Victor Vondale Olden, 27, of Washington was arrested Wednesday afternoon in the 600 block of West Tyler Street in Washington on a charge of serious assault.

Steven William Bailey, 39, of Port Wing, Wisconsin, was arrested Wednesday night in the 600 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington on a charge of public intoxication.

Hunter Orion Engstrom, 20, of Iowa City was arrested Wednesday night at 180th Street and Highway 1 in Washington on a charge of driving while license under suspension, third offense.

 

Traffic accident

A caller Wednesday afternoon at 135th Street and Riverside Road in Riverside reported rolling a vehicle south of Riverside on Riverside Road. Everyone was able to get out of the vehicle, but one subject did have leg pain. An ambulance, Riverside QRS, Riverside Fire, and officers responded. The ambulance made no transport. Anna Marie Nicole Wheeler, 20, of Washington was issued a citation for failure to maintain control. A towing service responded to retrieve the vehicle. A state report will be filed.

A caller Wednesday night at Highway 92 and Ginkgo Avenue in West Chester reported hitting a deer in a company truck. The deer was dead and off the roadway. There were a truck and trailer en route to remove the vehicle. Documentation was made.

Disabled vehicles

A caller Wednesday morning in the 3300 block of Highway 218 in Crawfordsville reported there was a dirt bike sitting at his field entrance. It had been there since last Thursday. Description was unknown. When a towing service responded and arrived, the dirt bike was not there. There was no tow.

A caller Wednesday morning in the 1700 block of Highway 1 and Highway 92 reported there was a vehicle parked about 200 feet from his mailbox. An officer responded. The disabled vehicle was unoccupied. It looked as if they had run out of gas.

A deputy reported being out with a semi in the roadway, Wednesday night at Elm Avenue and Highway 78 in Brighton. The deputy advised the semi had a flat tire. A tire company responded and assisted.

An officer reported being out with a vehicle with its flashers on, Thursday morning in the 1600 block of Ginkgo Avenue in Wellman. Everything was fine, and the vehicle was on its way.

Fire calls

A caller Wednesday night in the 2600 block of 295th Street in Washington reported a power line hit a pine tree and was on fire. Washington Fire Department responded along with Alliant Energy.

A caller Thursday morning in the 800 block of North Railroad Street in Ainsworth reported a house possibly on fire. An officer responded and advised there was no smoke or visible flames, and disregarded the Ainsworth Fire Department.

Animal complaint

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 800 block of West Monroe Street in Washington reported someone had a black SUV parked on the east side of the parking lot with a dog inside. It had been there for approximately 30 minutes. The dog appeared to be in distress. An officer responded. Another officer located the owner and had a discussion with her about not leaving the dog in the vehicle in hot weather.

A caller Wednesday night in the 700 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported two dogs tied up outside since about 6 a.m. An officer responded. No one would come to the door, but the dogs were back inside the residence.

Civil standby

A caller Thursday morning in the 400 block of West Madison Street in Washington requested a civil standby. An officer responded. The subject retrieved her items without incident.

Disorderly conduct

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 900 block of West Second Street in Washington reported a female subject came to their summer lunch program and went off on several male juveniles. She also went off on staff when confronted about her behavior. An officer was advised. Documentation was made.

A caller Wednesday night in the 800 block of East Harrison Street in Washington reported there wee subjects in a small black Acura type vehicle t throwing fireworks out of the car, and going westbound on Harrison. An officer checked the area and was unable to locate.

DP & Q

A caller Wednesday night at West Madison Street and South Avenue C in Washington reported the subjects at a nearby house were shooting off fireworks. An officer checked the area and was unable to locate.

Drug/narcotics violation

An officer reported being at the jail citing a subject into court after receiving DCI lab results back, Wednesday night in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington. Joel Andrew Meadows, 21, of Coralville was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, first offense, and possession of a controlled substance, first offense

 

Intimidation/harassment

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 500 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported a subject was harassing him by driving by the residence and leaving him threatening messages on his voice mail. An officer called the reporting party. A second officer responded and spoke to the subject.

Public service contacts

A caller Wednesday night in the 900 block of Ninth Avenue in Wellman requested that a deputy make contact with a subject in Wellman. An officer responded and tried to make contact with the subject, and was advised that the subject didn't live there anymore.

Trespass

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 1100 block of South Ninth Avenue in Washington reported a subject was camping on her property in a camper and did not have permission to be there. An officer responded. The subject was advised he was not to be on the property unless the male resident was present. The subject left for the night.

Vandalism

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 1000 block of E Avenue in Kalona reported a white van was speeding through the Kalona Park and drove through the grass, possibly causing damage. An officer responded. No damage was located. Documentation was made.

All other offenses

A caller Wednesday evening in the 900 block of East Third Street in Washington reported her neighbors were shooting off fireworks. An officer checked the area and was unable to locate the subjects.

A caller Wednesday evening in the 900 block of West Main Street in Washington reported there were subjects setting off fireworks in Sunset Park by the Dog Park near the pavilion. An officer checked the area and was unable to locate the subjects.

A caller Wednesday night in the 300 block of East Van Buren Street in Washington reported that fireworks came from either South Third or South Second and it hit her roof. An officer checked the area and was unable to locate.

All other theft

A caller Wednesday morning in the 700 block of East Jefferson Street in Washington reported that someone used her PayPal account and had an item shipped to their address. Total amount charged to her account was $36. She was going to contact her bank and PayPal. An officer spoke to t he reporting party. She got a stop put on her account before the money was taken out. The incident was documented.

A caller Wednesday evening in the 1700 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported a silver Dodge 4-by-4 pickup left eastbound on Highway 92 without paying for $10 in gas. Documentation was made.

A caller Thursday morning in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington reported a shoplifter. They were leaving the parking lot headed east on Highway 92. Officers responded. A report will be filed.
