Arrest

Paul Daniel Wittke, 18, of Kalona, was arrested Tuesday morning in the 1600 block of Highway 22 in Wellman on a charge of assault causing bodily injury, and disorderly conduct.

 

Traffic accident

A caller Tuesday afternoon at Highway 218 and the Highway 22 exit ramp in Riverside reported a semi hit a vehicle near another semi that was on fire. The vehicle rolled into the ditch. The caller requested an ambulance. The subject planned to go by private vehicle, and an ambulance and Riverside QRS were advised to disregard. Iowa State Patrol planned to handle any report needed. The vehicle was towed.

 

Traffic other

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 700 block of South Sixth Avenue in Washington reported a service trailer open on South Sixth Avenue, creating a traffic hazard with school getting out. An officer responded and spoke with the subject.

A caller Tuesday afternoon at 230th Street and Riverside Road in Washington reported a car stuck on 230th Street. An officer responded but was diverted to multiple emergencies. A second officer responded. The vehicle was gone upon the officer’s arrival.

A caller Tuesday night in the 600 block of West Monroe Street in Washington reported a black Dodge Challenger with yellow plates had been driving up and down Monroe Street at a high rate of speed. The caller requested an officer. An officer spoke with and counseled the driver.

A caller Tuesday night in the 200 block of West Tyler Street in Washington reported an illegally parked vehicle. An officer responded and was unable to locate the operator in the area. The officer was able to make contact with the registered owner, and he agreed to have the vehicle moved.

 

Disabled vehicles

A caller Tuesday night in the 2600 block of Airport Road in Washington reported a disabled vehicle along the roadway. An officer responded. The vehicle ran out of gas, and the occupants had someone coming to pick them up.

A deputy reported being out with a disabled vehicle, Tuesday night at 220th Street and Redwood Avenue in Washington. The vehicle was unoccupied and was tagged.

 

Fire calls

A caller Tuesday afternoon at Highway 218 and the Highway 22 ramp in Riverside reported that his inside dual caught fire on his semi. He was on the southbound side of Highway 218 near Exit 80. The bottom of the trailer was catching fire, and he was hauling sheetrock. Riverside Fire Department responded along with an Iowa State Patrol officer. The fire was extinguished.

A caller Tuesday night in the 600 block of West Main Street in Washington reported smelling something burning inside her residence. Washington Fire Department, Alliant Energy and an officer responded and were unable to locate any fire at the residence.

 

Animal complaint

A caller Tuesday night in the 1800 block of 315th Street in Washington reported a neighbor’s dog came onto her property and walked through their fresh concrete work. An officer responded. The concrete workers were able to fix the concrete. The dog owner was spoken to about keeping his dog on his own property.

A caller Tuesday night at 330th Street and Wayland Road in Wayland reported a dead deer in the middle of the roadway on the east side, 2 miles north of Wayland on Wayland Road. An officer checked the area and was unable to locate any deer in the roadway.

 

Burglary

A caller Wednesday morning in the 200 block of North Van Buren Street in Brighton reported that someone broke into the business. An officer responded. The suspect did not gain entry. The incident is under investigation.

 

Civil dispute

A caller Tuesday night in the 700 block of South Third Avenue in Washington reported he was moving out and another subject was telling him he needed to leave his belongings there. An officer spoke with the caller. There was no problem – the caller just had some questions.

 

Disorderly conduct

A caller Tuesday morning in the 100 block of South Avenue B in Washington reported a verbal dispute between two men in the 100 block of South Avenue B. Officers responded. The dispute was verbal only, and the parties were separated.

 

Hang-up 911 call

Dispatch received a 911 hang-up call, Wednesday morning in the 700 block of East Van Buren Street in Washington. Everything was fine. It was a misdial.

 

Illegal dumping

A caller Tuesday morn   ing in the 100 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported illegal dumping. An officer spoke with the caller. No identifiers were available, but video was available. The information was documented.

 

Intimidation/harassment

A caller Tuesday morning in the 1300 block of Deer Run Drive in Riverside reported that a Johnson County refuse driver was driving badly on Monday in the subdivision. The caller videotaped the driver, and the driver confronted him. An officer spoke with the caller and gave him some options on how to proceed.

 

Suspicious activity

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 900 block of West Main Street in Washington reported approximately eight juveniles drinking alcohol by the basketball courts. The caller requested an officer. An officer found no one in the park was consuming alcohol. The report was unfounded.

 

Vandalism

A caller Tuesday morning in the 300 block of A Place in Kalona reported his car was vandalized the previous day between 4:30 and 7 p.m. An officer was advised for documentation purposes.

 

Weapons violation

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 600 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington requested to speak with an officer. An officer responded. The problem was resolved.

 

Welfare check

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 900 block of South Avenue B in Washington requested a welfare check on her daughter. She had not heard from her for three days. An officer responded. The subject was not there, and the residents had not seen her for several days.

 

All other theft

A caller Tuesday evening in the 300 block of East Washington Street reported she had misplaced her wallet while in Washington during the day. It was multicolored, with pockets, and contained her driver’s license, credit card and cash. The driver’s license was entered into the system. Documentation was made. The subject called back after locating the wallet and all contents.

A caller Tuesday night in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported that she left the window down on her vehicle while at a convenience store, and someone took her coin purse and billfold. Contents were identification, Social Security card, driver’s license, checkbook and money. An officer spoke with the caller, and checked the area and was unable to locate the billfold. The Social Security card and the driver’s license were entered into the system.
