Gilberto Javier Arevalo-Aguirre, 34, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested Tuesday morning at 220th Street and Highway 218 in Ainsworth on a charge of driving while barred.

Robert Thomas Andrews, 38, of Ottumwa, was arrested Tuesday morning at Highway 218 and 170th Street in Riverside on a charge of third-degree theft.

Curtis Anthony Cousins, 34, of Washington, was arrested Tuesday night in the 100 block of South Market Street in Memphis, Missouri, on a Washington County warrant for revocation of pretrial release supervision, original charge of two counts of possession of controlled substance, third or subsequent offense.


Traffic accident

A caller Tuesday evening at North Fourth Avenue and East Third Street in Washington reported a two- vehicle accident. Traffic was blocked, and one occupant had neck pain. Officers, Washington Fire and an ambulance responded. The ambulance transported one subject to the Washington County Hospital. Jon Joseph Gedlinske, of Iowa City, was cited for failure to obey traffic signal.

A caller Tuesday night in the 200 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported a subject hit a parked car. An officer responded. Information was exchanged. Damage was under $1,500. Documentation was made.


Traffic other

A caller Tuesday afternoon at Vine Avenue and 150th Street in Riverside reported that a gray dump truck with trailer passed him on Vine Avenue at a high rate of speed. The caller provided the license plate number. A deputy was advised. The information was documented.


Disabled vehicles

An officer reported a disabled vehicle, Tuesday night at 14th Street and E Avenue in Kalona. The officer advised that the vehicle was pushed into a parking lot, and gave the driver and a male juvenile a ride to their residence. The subject advised he would get the vehicle moved as soon as possible.

An officer reported an unoccupied disabled vehicle, Tuesday night at Highway 218 and the Highway 92 ramp in Ainsworth. The vehicle was added to the system.


Animal complaint

Dispatch reported that a female subject was out running on the trail and a black dog came at her, Tuesday night at West Fifth Street and West Third Street in Washington. The caller was requesting assistance because she did not want to get attacked. Officers responded. The female caller continued on before the officers arrived. Officers spoke with the dog owner, who advised that the dog was in an electric fence and couldn’t get on the trail. There were no issues.


Drug/narcotics violation

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington reported a possible drug violation. Officers responded. The substance was possibly dust from the ceiling. Officers intended to test the substance. Documentation was made.



A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 300 block of East River Street in Riverside reported her neighbor made a death threat toward her, and requested to speak with a deputy and file charges. An officer responded and spoke with both parties, who were advised to have no further contact with each other.


Runaways/missing person

A caller Tuesday morning in the 3100 block of Highway 22 in Riverside reported that they had a missing subject who was possibly at the casino. Three Washington County officers and DCI all responded. A report will be filed.


Suspicious activity

An officer reported being out with a suspicious vehicle, Wednesday morning at Highway 92 and Railroad Street in West Chester. A subject had stopped to check out his vehicle because it was making a strange noise.



A caller Tuesday morning in the 400 block of South Iowa Avenue reported that her 9-year-old son was refusing to go to school, and requested an officer. An officer spoke with the juvenile, and he was on his way to school.


All other theft

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 800 block of South Second Avenue in Washington reported that an inmate received information that someone went into her house and took her dog. An officer responded and spoke with the dog owner. The officer attempted to make contact with subjects at the residence. There was no answer.


All other offenses

On Tuesday morning, an officer reported a bicycle was left outside a building Thursday night in the 200 block of East Main Street in Washington. It was a girls’ purple and black Sidewinder Schwinn  bike. It was taken to the bike shed.

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 200 block of East Jackson Street in Washington reported that a green bicycle had been sitting in the front yard on East Jackson for two weeks, and requested that an officer pick it up. An officer responded and was unable to locate the bike, and no one answered the door.

A caller Tuesday night in the 1300 block of North Second Avenue in Washington reported a boys’ older blue-and-white bicycle with a basket that was parked at her door. She did not know whose bike it was. An officer responded and moved the bike to where the bikes should be parked. The caller was advised to contact her landlord if the bike parking continued to be an issue.
