Arrests

Michele Marie Gierloff, 51, of Wayland, was arrested Tuesday afternoon at Highway 78 and Ginkgo Avenue in Brighton on a Henry County warrant for failure to appear for initial appearance on original charge of driving under suspension.

Jose Luis Vazquez Ramirez, 37, of Columbus Junction, was arrested Tuesday night in the 200 block of Walnut Street in Columbus Junction on a Washington County warrant for violation of probation on original charge of OWI.

 

Traffic stop serious

An officer reported stopping a vehicle, Tuesday night at South Marion Avenue and West Jefferson Street in Washington. Rebecca Sue Inman, 25, of Washington, was cited for driving under suspension.

 

Traffic other

A caller Tuesday night in the 500 block of South Third Avenue in Washington reported a stop arm violation. Benjamin William Koehler-Bye, 18, of Washington, was cited for unlawful passing of a school bus.

 

Disabled vehicles

A caller Tuesday morning in the 100 block of East Washington Street in Brighton reported a vehicle with a flat tire that had been parked in front of City Hall since Sunday. An officer responded and placed a 24-hour tow tag on the window. At 6 pm. on Tuesday, the owner was advised by Dispatch that his vehicle needed to be moved or it would be towed. The caller then hung up.

 

Animal complaint

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 900 block of East Second Street in Washington reported that a schnauzer in the neighborhood had been put out on an extremely short chain and was stuck near the fencing. There was no food, water or shelter. An officer responded. The puppy was an inside dog, and the owners had just put it outside for a few minutes.

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 300 block of Cedar Street in West Chester reported that a West Chester resident had 14 dogs. The caller did not believe they were being cared for properly, and requested to speak with a deputy. An officer spoke with the caller, and she was given some options. The information was documented.

A caller Tuesday night in the 100 block of North Taylor Street in Brighton reported that a dog had continually come onto their property. It got into their garage and damaged things. An officer responded and spoke with the dog owner. The owners planned to make contact with the caller on Wednesday, and apologize. Documentation was made.

A caller Tuesday night in the 200 block of Angle Street in Brighton reported that the neighbor’s Rottweiler came onto his property and attacked him and his dog. The caller requested a deputy. An officer spoke with the caller and the owner of the dog. The owner of the dog was advised that next time would result in a citation.

 

Assault

A caller Tuesday night in the 100 block of South Mechanic Street in Brighton reported that his girlfriend hit him over the head with a board and threw a glass table at him. She was then running down Madison Street, wearing a pink-and-black striped shirt. An officer checked the area and went to the residence. No one would answer the door. The house was all locked up. The officer was unable to locate the subject. The officer planned to follow up on Wednesday.

 

DP & Q

A caller Tuesday night in the 1600 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington reported that someone was stomping in the upstairs apartment, and requested an officer. The officer was unable to hear any noise.

 

Family offense nonviolent

A caller Tuesday night in the 700 block of 13th Street in Wellman reported his “ex” and her son would not leave his residence. The caller requested a deputy. The female subject took the child with her and left the residence. They were also given the number for DHS.

 

Fraud

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 300 block of North Fourth Avenue in Washington reported a fraudulent purchase made on a credit card. An officer responded. The credit card company was taking care of the purchases.

 

Welfare check

A caller Tuesday night in the 1900 block of 140th Street in Wellman requested a welfare check on a subject who came home from the hospital that night. An officer spoke with both subjects at the house. The subject was fine.

 

All other theft

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 100 block of Kleopfer Avenue in Riverside reported that a subject, from whom they purchased kitchen items, borrowed items for an event and never returned them. The report is under investigation.

 

All other offenses

A caller Tuesday afternoon in the 700 block of F Avenue in Kalona made contact with a deputy, needing him to speak with a juvenile. The officer responded and spoke with a juvenile and a parent, with a verbal warning given on the juvenile’s actions.
