Maurdell Demetrius McGee Jackson, 28, of Coralville was arrested

Thursday morning in the 4500 block of Melrose Avenue in Iowa City on a Washington County warrant for assault causing serious injury, and first-degree domestic abuse assault injury or mental illness.


Traffic accident

A caller Wednesday morning in the 1600 block of Highway 22 in Wellman reported a car vs. deer accident. The vehicle was drivable. Caller requested documentation for insurance purposes. The deer was off the roadway.


Fire calls

An audible fire alarm was reported Wednesday morning in the 1000 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington. Washington Fire Department and officers responded and were unable to locate any fire. The alarm was reset.


Animal complaint

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 300 block of East Third Street in Washington wanted an animal welfare check on a German shepherd tied out in the rain. The caller did not see food, water or shelter. An officer responded. The dog was OK. Contact was made with the owners. They had the dog out to use the restroom. This was its daily routine.



A student reported missing Tuesday night was reported on the east side of the school, Wednesday morning in the 300 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington. The juvenile had just assaulted his brother. Seven juveniles were involved in the fight. Six juveniles will be charged with disorderly conduct and suspended from school. One juvenile will be charged with assault and theft. One juvenile was transported to Eldora. A report will be filed.

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 200 block of West Main Street in Brighton reported a church member was assaulted on a bus in Washington County about a month ago. The caller was not involved and had already contacted DHS, which will check into it. The parents had not made contact with law enforcement.

A caller Wednesday night in the 600 block of East Tyler Street in Washington advised that two males and one female were in an altercation, and the caller didn’t know if it was physical. The caller could hear them arguing. The female left in a black car with children. Officers responded. The subjects were separated prior to officers’ arrival. The actual incident had occurred in Burlington. Everything was OK at the Washington location.

A caller Wednesday night in the 100 block of East Jefferson Street in Washington reported an altercation between two male subjects in the north parking lot. It was physical at that time. One female subject was standing nearby. One subject left in a white Ford F-150. Two males left westbound on foot. Officers responded. Two subjects were located. They did not want to press charges. Officers were unable to locate the third subject involved.


Charges filed

Nathan Michael Kleopfer, 33, of Washington, was charged Wednesday with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver.


Disorderly conduct

A caller Wednesday morning in the 1100 block of Enterprise Drive in Riverside reported a customer inside the store who was agitated and drinking alcohol after she was told this was not permitted in the business. Officers responded. One of the officers transported the female subject to Iowa City.

Dispatch received a report Wednesday morning from the 300 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington that a student was out of control. The student was one of the juveniles involved in a fight earlier. The student later showed up back at the school and started causing problems. He was advised to leave and if he returned, trespass charges would be filed. The subject left.



A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 500 block of North Iowa Avenue in Washington reported her roommate was having issues with a male subject threatening to beat up the roommate, and harassing her. The caller later called back requesting officers to respond because the subject showed up at the apartment making threats. Officers responded. The cause of the problem was that the roommate had the subject’s shoes. She returned the shoes to him.


Search warrants

An officer reported executing a search warrant on a vehicle, Wednesday morning in the 1500 block of East Seventh Street in Washington. A report was filed.

Deputies Wednesday night reported being out at a residence in the 500 block of West Washington Street in Brighton, conducting a search warrant. Charges are pending on a Mount Pleasant resident for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, per DCI lab results.


Suspicious activity

A caller Wednesday afternoon at North Marion Avenue and West Third Street in Washington reported a female in a maroon Kia van made her young daughter get out and told her to walk home. She then splashed the daughter with water. She did go back and pick her up, but they were then sitting in the van nearby. The caller requested an officer speak to the subject. An officer spoke with the driver, who was disciplining her daughter for acting up on the school bus.

A caller Wednesday night in the 1600 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington reported a suspicious odor in the building. Officers responded and were unable to locate any odor. The report was unfounded.


Welfare check

An officer Wednesday afternoon in the 100 block of North Seventh Avenue in Washington reported being out at a residence for a welfare check. Another officer responded. They were unable to locate the subject.

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 1300 block of West Madison Street in Washington requested a welfare check on a 50-year-old female, location unknown. An officer responded and checked the last-known location of the female and was unable to locate her.


All other theft

A caller Wednesday morning in the 1700 block of Sixth Avenue N in Wellman reported his front license plate was stolen. He didn’t know when or where it was taken, and said he would get replacement plates. An officer was advised for documentation purposes. The license plate was entered into the system.

A caller Wednesday night in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington reported a theft that occurred the previous day. Officer responded. The information was documented.
