Brian Leon Gingerich, 46, of Keota, was arrested Monday evening in the 100 block of East Main Street in Washington for driving while barred.


Traffic accidents

A two-vehicle accident was reported Monday afternoon in the 1200 block of East Washington Street in Washington. No injuries were reported. An officer responded. Over $1,500 damage was reported. Allison Plants of Washington was cited for no insurance and improper use of lanes.


Traffic stop serious

An officer reported Monday morning being on a traffic stop in the 3100 block of Highway 1 in Brighton. Ashley Ann Koontz of Brighton was cited for driving under suspension.


Disabled vehicles

An officer reported being out with an unoccupied disabled vehicle Monday morning in the 2800 block of Highway 1 in Washington.

An officer responded Monday afternoon being out with a disabled vehicle in the 1000 block of Highway 218 in Riverside. The vehicle was tagged.


Fire calls

A power line down in the 300 block of Center Street in West Chester reportedly caught a tree on fire Monday afternoon. Wellman Fire Department and Alliant responded. Wellman Fire advised there was no smoke or flames coming from the tree.

Keokuk County Sheriff’s office advised Monday afternoon Keota Fire was requesting Wellman Fire in the 500 block of North Davis Street in Keota for a gas tank on fire. Manpower was needed. Wellman Fire responded.

A light fixture inside the bay of a car was in the 100 block of E Avenue in Kalona was reported on fire Monday night. Kalona Fire responded and extinguished the fire.


Sex offender

A violation of the sex offender registry was reported Monday night in the 400 block of Seventh Street in Kalona. The incident was documented.


All other thefts

A rear license plate was reportedly stolen from a vehicle Monday morning in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington. An officer was advised.

A bike was reported stolen Monday evening in the 300 block of North Marion Avenue in Washington. A subject was on camera stealing the bike. The bike was located and returned to the owner. No charges per owner.


Mental subject

Dispatch reported Monday afternoon receiving a 911 call from a subject in the 3100 block of Highway 1 in Brighton requesting deputies to do a welfare check. Officers responded. The caller’s pastor responded to take him to the hospital. Officers followed the subjects there.


Animal complaint

A caller in the 1200 block of North Iowa Avenue in Washington reported Monday morning and ongoing problem with a barking dog in the neighborhood. An officer responded. A written warning was issued for allowing or permitting a dog to bark.  The owner was also advised of the tether ordinance.


All other offenses

A caller in the 600 block of North B Avenue in Washington reported Monday afternoon that the resident across the street went onto their property and had taken the caller’s lawnmower out of the garage to mow her yard. The lawnmower was returned and the caller did speak with the subject, but requested an officer speak with her as well. An officer spoke with the subject.


Family offense non violent

A caller in the 600 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington requested to speak with an officer Monday afternoon in reference to a possible violation of a no-contact order. An officer spoke with the caller. No violation was reported, but the officer spoke with the other party.


Suspicious activity

A caller in the 100 block of East Main Street in Washington reported Monday evening that suspicious activity had been going on at the dumpster outside the building with two male subject putting things in the dumpster illegally.

An officer reported Tuesday morning being out with a vehicle with an open door in the 600 block of 13th Street in Wellman. Everything was fine. The owner forgot to shut the door.


Welfare check

A welfare check was requested Monday afternoon in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington. An officer responded. Everything was fine.


Civil dispute

A caller in the 30 block of North Washburn Street in Riverside reported Monday evening the landlord was threatening to turn off the power because they hadn’t paid rent. An officer spoke with the caller. It was a civil matter.
