Arrests

Christopher John Owens, 35, of Kalona, was arrested Wednesday morning in the 1500 block of Highway 1 in Washington for trespass first offense.

Jeffrey Gerald Serum, 54, of Kalona, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington on two warrants for violations of a no-contact order.

Daniel Orville Riness, 40, of Brighton, was arrested Wednesday evening in the 1100 block of Redwood Avenue in Riverside for driving while barred.

 

Traffic accidents

An accident was reported Wednesday morning in the 1100 block of East Van Buren Street in Washington. A vehicle was backing out of a driveway and hit the caller’s vehicle. No injuries were reported. The roadway was not blocked, but there was debris. An officer responded. Damage was over $1,500. Photos were taken. A juvenile was cited for unsafe backing.

A hit and run accident was reported Wednesday morning in the 400 block of East Polk Street in Washington. An officer responded. The incident was documented.

 

Disabled vehicles

An officer reported Wednesday afternoon being out at Highway 218 and 220th Street in Ainsworth with a broken down vehicle. A tow was requested.

 

Traffic other

A semi was reported blocking the road Wednesday afternoon in the 2600 block of Highway 92 in Washington and it appeared to partially be in the ditch. Officers responded. A tow truck was called. State DOT and the property owner were contacted in reference to damage. The incident was documented.

A truck was reported possibly stuck Wednesday afternoon at 230th Street and Nutmeg Avenue in Washington. An officer was unable to locate.

An officer reported Thursday morning being out with a vehicle at Circle Drive and Eighth Street in Wellman. Everything was fine.

 

Fire calls

A subject was reported burning trash Wednesday night at West Washington Street and South E Avenue in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.

 

Sexual child abuse

The Department of Human Services reported Wednesday afternoon a possible case of sexual child abuse in Kalona. An officer responded. it was unfounded. The caller will put a safety plan in place.

 

Drug/narcotics violation

Steven Bradley Willard, 54, of Iowa City, was cited into court Wednesday morning in the 2900 block of Highway 92 in Ainsworth for possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

Vandalism

Two tires were reportedly slashed on a vehicle in the 400 block of East Madison Street in Washington Wednesday afternoon and the driver’s side of the vehicle was keyed. An officer responded. The incident was documented.

 

Intimidation/harassment

A caller in the 2600 block of Old White Way in Ainsworth reported Wednesday morning that his niece kept calling his mom and asking for money. The mother was given her options.

 

DP&Q

A caller in the 800 block of North Sixth Avenue in Washington reported Wednesday morning the neighbors were outside arguing and loud music was coming from a vehicle. The caller also reported their baby was walking around barefoot and only in a diaper. An officer responded. The music was excessively loud on arrival, which was a concern with the baby being inside the vehicle. DHS will be contacted.

Loud music was reported coming from a trailer in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona Wednesday night. Officers responded. They could not hear any music. The subject was advised of the complaint.

Loud music was reported coming from a building in the 1200 block of East Third Street in Washington Wednesday night. An officer checked the area. Subjects were advised of the complaint.

 

All other offenses

A caller in the 30 block of North Washburn Street in Riverside reported Wednesday afternoon her roommate took her belongings, threatened her and shoved her. They were separated. Officers and the Iowa State Patrol responded. The parties were going to separate and were advised to leave each other alone. The caller later called back to reported a subject had left the residence but had locked her out. he had stolen her keys three days ago and had stolen evidence she had been collecting.

Kids were reported on top of the bandstand in the 100 block of West Washington Street in Washington Wednesday afternoon making a lot of noise and using foul language. An officer was unable to locate.

A caller in the 700 block of East Second Street in Washington reported Wednesday evening that a subject was outside her house in a red car and threatening her if she did not give him $3,000. Officers responded. There was no one outside. The caller was advised to get a new number.

 

Suspicious activity

A suspicious subject was reported under a tree in the 1200 block of West Madison Street in Washington. An officer responded. The subject thought it was part of the park and moved on.

An officer reported Thursday morning being out with a vehicle in the 2100 block of Wayland Road in Wayland. No one was around and the building was secured.

 

Civil standby

A caller in the 100 block of West Main Street in Washington reported Wednesday morning a tenant was not letting her into the apartment. An officer responded and assisted.

 

Welfare check

A welfare check was requested Thursday morning in the 100 block of North Taylor Street in Brighton. An officer responded. The subject was fine.
