Arrests

Adam Dean Lowe, 38, of Brighton was arrested Wednesday morning in the 2300 block of Highway 78 in Wayland on charges of driving under suspension, first offense, and violation of a no-contact order. Further charges are pending. Philip James Kurtz of Brighton was cited at the same time and location for allowing an unauthorized driver to operate the vehicle. The vehicle was towed.

Katelyn Nicole Reed, 21, of Brighton was arrested Wednesday afternoon in the 700 block of South Marion Avenue in Washington on charges of assault and public intoxication. Further charges are pending.

Alesa Lynn DeFrank, 56, of Washington was arrested Wednesday night in the 400 block of C Avenue in Kalona on charges of child endangerment, simple assault, OWI first offense, leaving the scene of an accident, no insurance accident-related, and reckless driving.Traffic accidentA caller Wednesday morning in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington advised of a vehicle accident involving a white truck and a tan car. An officer responded. Damage amounted to more than $1,500, and a state accident report will be filed.

Rae Lea Lawley, 46, was cited for failure to yield prior to making a left turn, and no driver’s license.A caller Wednesday afternoon at First Avenue and Highway 22 in Wellman reported a four-vehicle accident with no injuries. The vehicles were a Toyota Carolla, a Nissan Altima, a Ford Fiesta and a red Ford mini van. The roadway was not blocked. Officers responded. Chyanne Lyne Kruse, 18, was cited for following too closely.

Traffic other

A caller Wednesday night in the 2200 block of 200th Street in Washington reported mud-running in the area. An officer checked the area and was unable to locate the vehicle. The officer did attempt to make contact with the caller, also.

Fire calls

A caller Wednesday morning in the 1000 block of Locust Avenue in Kalona reported a truck on fire. Kalona Fire and an officer responded. The fire was extinguished.A caller Wednesday night at South F Avenue and West Monroe Street in Washington reported a transformer box possibly on fire, and it was sparking. Washington Fire responded and advised that it was smoking but not on fire. Alliant Energy was notified.

A transformer on fire was reported Wednesday night in the 1800 block of West Main Street in Washington. Washington Fire and Alliant Energy responded.

Animal complaint

A caller Wednesday morning in the 2900 block   of Highway 22 in Riverside reported a dead deer in the middle of the roadway. An officer responded and removed it from the roadway.

A caller Wednesday morning in the 600 block of East Second Street in Washington reported his neighbor’s dog had repeatedly come into his yard. It was a small white dog with a cut-off tail. An officer responded. The dog’s owner was issued a written warning for dog at large.

A caller Wednesday morning in the 100 block of Alegre Lane in Washington reported a possible abandoned yellow Lab at a location with no electricity and no running water. An officer responded and found a cat that looked well taken care of. The dog in the backyard looked thin but not sickly. The owners were contacted and advised that they were going to get the pets moved soon.A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 1000 block of West Main Street in Washington reported the neighbor’s dog, that repeatedly came into her yard and barked at her, was in her yard again. She had it on video. It was a medium-sized black and white shaggy dog. An officer responded. The dog owner was not home, and a message was left to request him to call in when he returned home. The officer spoke to the roommate, who took the dog inside.

A caller Thursday morning at Highway 218 and Tupelo Boulevard in Riverside reported a deer in the southbound lane. An officer responded and removed it from the roadway.AssaultA caller Wednesday morning in the 3200 block of Redwood Avenue in Wayland reported a domestic situation between and male and a female in the roadway on foot. Officers responded and located the subjects. Both subjects denied any assault, and there were no visible signs of an assault.

Barking dog

A caller Thursday morning in the 1100 block of East Third Street in Washington reported a dog barking outside. An officer responded and spoke to the dog owner, who took the dog inside.Disorderly conductA caller Wednesday night in the 900 block of East Second Street in Washington reported a male subject was yelling loudly. The problem was unknown. Officers responded but were unable to locate the subject.

Intimidation/harassment

A caller Wednesday night in the 600 block of West Tyler Street in Washington reported a male subject was in the parking lot harassing the caller’s daughter. Officers responded. The subject was gone upon the officers’ arrival. The caller was going to call back in if the subject showed up again.VandalismA caller Wednesday night in the 800 block of North Sixth Avenue in Washington reported his neighbor’s car window was broken out. An officer responded. Nothing appeared to be missing. The information was documented for the present.

Weather related

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 1200 block of 155th Street in Wellman reported the roof was blown off the shed and there were “hot” power lines on the roadway. At least three poles were broken off. Keota Fire, Wellman Fire and Rescue and an officer all responded and assisted with the area.

A caller Wednesday afternoon at 190th Street and Ginkgo Avenue in West Chester reported an electrical pole down and a large limb covering 190th Street. The limb was removed, and Alliant Energy responded.

A caller Wednesday night in the 100 block of South Farmer Street in Brighton reported a tree hit a residence across the street. Brighton Fire Department checked the home and assisted.A caller Wednesday night in the 1900 block of Highway 1 in Washington reported a tree down on Highway 1, going across the roadway. The tree was removed by the home owner.

A caller Wednesday night at 220th Street and Quince Avenue in Washington reported a tree down, blocking 220th Street near Quince. There were also power lines down. Washington Fire responded. Alliant Energy was contacted.

A caller Wednesday night in the 1300 block of West Main Street in Washington reported a power line was completely down and a tree had fallen on the house and a vehicle. An officer and Washington Fire Department responded. There was damage to the roof and the car. Alliant Energy was contacted. A caller Wednesday night in the 2800 block of 200th Street in Ainsworth reported a tree down and power lines down in the roadway. Ainsworth Fire Department responded. Alliant Energy was contacted.

A caller Wednesday night in the 1800 block of Spruce Avenue in Ainsworth reported extensive damage to all the outbuildings on the property. Cattle were out, and there was debris in the roadway. No one was injured. Ainsworth Fire responded and assisted.

A caller Wednesday night in the 2800 block of 180th Street in Ainsworth reported windmill and power line down in the roadway. Riverside Fire Department responded and removed the windmill. Alliant Energy was contacted for the power line down.

Welfare check

A caller Wednesday morning in the 800 block of Tam Street in Ainsworth requested a welfare check on a 78-year-old male subject who had some medical issues. The caller had been unable to reach him. An officer responded. The subject was OK and was going to contact the medical clinic.

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 200 block of Eighth Avenue in Wellman requested a welfare check concerning a male juvenile who stated there were issues at home and made suicidal comments. The mother was contacted and will make contact with the school.

All other theft

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 1700 block of East Washington Street in Washington advised of a gas drive-off in the amount of $38.04, approximately 15 minutes earlier. An officer left a phone message with the registered owner of the vehicle. The subject did call back in to the Center at about 8 p.m. and was going to make contact with the service station.

All other offenses

A caller Wednesday night in the 800 block of North Fourth Avenue in Washington reported a green/blue bicycle was left in her yard sometime the previous night. An officer responded and took the bicycle to the bike shed. The bike description was a black bicycle with blue handlebars and pedals, and the front was yellow.
