Darian Lee Patterson, 28, was arrested Monday afternoon in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington on a Washington County warrant for failure to affix drug tax stamp, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, possession of a controlled substance – marijuana, third or subsequent offense, and unlawful possession of prescription drug.

Destiny Elda Noriega, 21, of Washington, was arrested early Tuesday morning in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington on a charge of fifth-degree theft.


Traffic accident

A caller Monday morning at B Avenue and Fifth Street in Kalona reported a traffic accident that happened this morning. Both vehicles had left the scene. There was no plate information available for either vehicle. Operators exchanged insurance information. The information was documented.

A caller Monday morning in the 100 block of West Washington Street in Washington reported an accident with no injuries. A vehicle backed out of a parking spot and struck another vehicle driving through the south side of the square. Damages were under $1,500. Kassi Kay Rice, of Ainsworth, was cited with unsafe backing.

A caller Monday afternoon in the 1900 block of 190th Street in Wellman reported that about 1 ½ hours earlier an accident occurred in which a white car pulled out to pass and struck his grain drill and sideswiped a green van. The driver of the white vehicle said he called it in, but did not. None of the parties involved contacted the Communications Center or remained at the scene of the accident.                                                                                                                                  An officer was advised for documentation only. The information on the operator of the white vehicle was verified. The grain drill had minimal damage.


Traffic other

A caller Monday morning in the 800 block of Park Street in Ainsworth reported that a male operator drove through three school bus stop arms as they were stopped picking up students on Monroe Street in Ainsworth earlier that morning. Paul Leroy Veach, of Washington, was cited for unlawful passing of school bus.


Fire calls

A caller Monday afternoon in the 1500 block of Willow Boulevard in Brighton reported that a fire from the previous day had rekindled. It was not near any structures. The caller requested that Brighton Fire Department respond. Brighton Fire Department responded. The fire was extinguished.

A caller Monday afternoon in the 1500 block of Iowa Washington Road in Wellman reported that the fire from the previous day had rekindled. Wellman Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.

A caller Monday night at 190th Street and Ginkgo Avenue in West Chester reported a field fire south of Prairie Flower Road. It was a controlled burn. All units were advised to disregard.

A caller Monday night in the 3000 block of Bayertown Road SW in Riverside reported her neighbor’s trees were on fire. She was unsure if it was a controlled burn, and requested Kalona Fire. Kalona Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire.



A caller Monday afternoon in the 1100 block of South Avenue B in Washington reported that a juvenile punched another juvenile. An officer responded. A male juvenile was charged with disorderly conduct.



A caller Monday afternoon in the 900 block of South Second Avenue in Washington reported a theft from the residence.  An officer spoke with the caller. Documentation was made. The officer planned to attempt to get the item back.



A caller Monday morning in the 500 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported harassing phone calls. The calls were coming from a person living with a subject who had a no-contact order with the caller. An officer made contact with both parties. The call was accidental. The subject was advised not to make any contact with the caller.

A deputy received a report of a subject violating a no-contact order, Monday afternoon in the 1200 block of 275th Street in Brighton. The officer spoke with the subject for documentation.


Runaways/missing person

A caller Monday evening in the 3000 block of Coppock Road in Washington reported that her daughter did not go to work on Monday and had not been heard from. The caller requested a welfare check on her. The adult female subject was entered into the system.



A caller Monday morning in the 600 block of West Adams Street in Washington requested that an officer assist with a truant student. The student was taken to school by the officer. DHS was contacted, and the child was going to be returned to her mother.


Welfare check

A caller Monday afternoon in the 200 block of West Main Street in Washington reported a small child was hanging out an open window (no screen on the window), and the child was playing with the vehicle remote earlier, making the vehicle alarm sound. An officer responded. No one would respond at the door. Documentation was made.

A caller Monday afternoon in the 900 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported that an approximately 18-month-old child was left unattended on South Iowa Avenue. The caller was able to get the child back to its residence, but no adult would come to the door. An officer responded. Another young child may have let the child out. There was an older juvenile there to care for them, and they planned to speak with their parents.
