Misty Dawn McHugh, 29, of Washington, was arrested Thursday night in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington for fifth-degree theft.

Devra Ann Schmelzer, 22, of Kinross, was arrested Friday morning in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington for OWI.


Traffic accidents

A two-vehicle accident was reported Thursday morning at South Iowa and East Polk Street in Washington. Over $1,500 damage was reported. Kelly Ross of Washington was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.

A caller on Highway 22 and Sand Road in Riverside reported Thursday evening hitting a deer. Officers responded. A deer tag was issued.

Wellman QRS and Wellman Fire were requested Friday morning in the 4500 block of Melrose Avenue in Iowa City for an accident with unknown injuries. The units were later disregarded.


Traffic other

A vehicle was reported all over the roadway Thursday afternoon at Highway 1 and 190th Street in Washington.

A caller in the 2000 block of 140th Street in Wellman reported Thursday evening that a vehicle was tailgating his vehicle and proceeded to pass, throwing rocks and causing his paint to chip.


Physical child abuse

A caller in the 100 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported a possible case of child abuse Thursday evening. Officers responded. DHS will be contacted. A report will be filed.


Drug/narcotics violation

A caller reported Thursday evening smelling a suspicious odor in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington.



A caller in the 1200 block of North Ninth Avenue in Washington reported Thursday night that a subject dressed all in black and wearing a white mask opened the door and demanded subjects to give him money. The caller had advised the subject there was no money. The subject left on foot. The incident is under investigation.


All other thefts

A gas drive-off in the amount of $36 was reported Thursday afternoon in the 200 block of East First Street in Riverside. Units were advised.

A video game was reported stolen from a residence in the 400 block of West Jefferson Street in Washington Thursday afternoon. Officers responded. A subject was counseled.


Animal complaints

A deer tag was requested Thursday morning at Highway 218 and 210th Street for a deer found in the median. Officers responded. A deer tag was issued.
