Arrests

Matthew Mark Smith, 23, of Brighton, was arrested Wednesday morning in the 100 block of South Harrison Street in Brighton on charges of possession of controlled substance, first offense, marijuana, and public intoxication.

Chad Kenneth Pepper, 42, of Washington, was arrested Wednesday morning in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington on a Jefferson County warrant for eight counts of fifth-degree theft.

Zackary Todd McElroy, 23, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested Thursday morning in the 1100 block of First Avenue N.W. in Cedar Rapids on a Washington County warrant for violation of probation on previous apprehension obstructing prosecution or defense.

Dylan James Fields, 22, of Washington, was arrested Thursday night in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington on a Washington County warrant for disorderly conduct – loud or raucous noise, and charges for trespass. Further charges are pending for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Traffic accident

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 200 block of Eighth Avenue in Wellman reported that another vehicle ran into hers. Officers responded. Damage amounted to more than $1,500, and a state report was filed. An officer gave the male operator a ride home.

A caller Wednesday evening in the 1100 block of Ginkgo Avenue in Wellman reported a car-vs.-deer accident with no injuries. The vehicle was drivable. The caller requested a deer tag. An officer responded and issued a deer tag to a Wellman resident, as well as a state accident report for him to fill out.

A caller Thursday evening at Highway 218 and 265th Street in Ainsworth reported hitting a deer in the northbound lane. The vehicle had damages. A family member was coming to assist. The accident was documented, and the caller was advised on filling out a state accident report.

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 3100 block of Highway 22 in Riverside reported a two-vehicle traffic accident in the lot. An officer responded. The accident occurred on private property. Drivers’ information was exchanged, and no report will be filed. One vehicle was disabled in the lot, and the other should be able to be moved.

Traffic stop serious

An officer reported being at a vehicle stop, Wednesday night at Second Avenue and East Jefferson Street in Washington. Dakoda Michael Carlin, of Wayland, was cited into court for driving while license under suspension.

Disabled vehicles

An officer reported being out with a disabled vehicle, Wednesday night at Vine Avenue and 130th Street in Riverside. The officer advised that the vehicle would remain on the side of the road, and the driver had a ride. The vehicle was added to the system.

An officer reported being out with a disabled vehicle, Thursday night at Highway 218 and 192nd Street in Ainsworth. Everything was fine, and they would be on their way.

Fire calls

A caller Wednesday afternoon at Highway 218 and 305th Street in Crawfordsville reported a small fire in the west ditch. Crawfordsville Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.

Johnson County requested Kalona Fire for a ditch fire which was moving into a field, Thursday afternoon in the 3000 block of 540th Street S.W. in Riverside. Kalona Fire and QRS responded. The fire was extinguished.

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 3100 block of Highway 1 in Brighton reported burning trash and it was out of control, and fire was going into the weeds. Brighton Fire responded and extinguished the fire.

A caller Thursday evening in the 600 block of East Main Street reported a subject burning leaves in the backyard. An officer responded and checked the area and was unable to locate anything burning. The officer spoke with the caller, who advised him about which house had the leaves burning.

Animal complaint

A deputy reported that he was out just east of Juniper Avenue on Highway 92 in West Chester, issuing a deer tag. The deputy advised that they decided they did not want the meat/deer tag.

Assault

A caller Wednesday morning in the 300 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington requested to speak with an officer in reference to her son’s being assaulted Tuesday at the school. An officer responded with the caller at the police department. A report will be filed.

Burglary

A caller Thursday morning in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona reported the trailer she had for sale was broken into sometime since Oct. 15. She was missing several items. An officer spoke with the caller. A report will be filed. There were no suspects.

Family offense nonviolent

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 300 block of West Street in West Chester reported a domestic situation at a residence. No weapons were involved. The incident was all verbal at that time. An officer responded. The incident was a family matter, verbal only.

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 600 block of East Second Street in Washington reported a family dispute with his “ex” over the children. She wouldn’t leave and was out front in the driveway. Officers responded. This was an ongoing issue, and the parties were separated.

Illegal dumping

A caller Wednesday morning in the 1800 block of Lexington Boulevard in West Chester reported an illegal dumping at the side of a one-lane bridge. An officer responded. Dispatch planned to notify County Roads on Monday. The officer made contact with the subject who left the trash, and he was going to remove it.

Shoplifting

A caller Wednesday night in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington reported that three subjects in the store opened a product. Officers responded. The subjects paid for the items, and the store was fine with that.

A caller Thursday morning in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington reported the theft of a watch. Officers responded. A juvenile was cited into court for possession of alcohol under the legal age, second offense. Rico Demonte Stringer, 25, of Washington, was cited into court at the same time and location for fifth-degree theft.

A caller Thursday morning in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington reported two shoplifters, a female subject wearing a red sweater, and a male subject wearing a tan Carhartt coat. Officers responded. Kaitlyn Lee Harrison, 24, of Washington, was cited into court for fifth-degree theft.

Suspicious activity

A caller Thursday night in the 2000 block of Nutmeg Avenue in Washington reported suspicious activity in reference to a drone. Officers searched for the drone. Documentation was made.

Trespass

A caller Thursday afternoon in the 300 block of Highway 1 in Washington reported that the caller’s 16-year-old son had been missing since that morning, and was last seen wearing a black coat, black backpack and white shoes. An officer responded and spoke with the parents. The son called his mother while the officer was there, and the parents were going to pick him up. The parents called back requesting assistance with retrieving their son. An officer responded. The juvenile had broken into the school. The juvenile will be charged with trespass and criminal mischief. The juvenile was released to his parents.

All other offenses

A caller Wednesday afternoon in the 800 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington said her son’s oven was smoking and she couldn’t get the oven to turn off. She didn’t want the fire department. An officer responded and assisted the subject.

A caller Thursday afternoon at 335th Street and Germanville Road in Brighton reported debris in the roadway. An officer responded and checked the area and was unable to locate the debris.
