Arrests

Jeffrey Gerald Serum, 53, of Kalona, was arrested Friday evening in the 1100 block of Oriole Drive in Kalona on a charge of violation of a protective order.

Kassandra Lynn Jordan, 36, of Sigourney, was arrested Friday night in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington on a charge of fifth-degree theft.

Steven Lee Haberberger, 37, of Brighton, was arrested Saturday afternoon in the 100 block of East Madison Street in Brighton on a charge of driving under suspension.

Erick Gilberto Martinez, 18, of Coralville, was arrested Saturday afternoon in the 4500 block of Melrose Avenue in Iowa City on a Washington County warrant for failure to appear for sentencing on driving under suspension.

Noah Benn Woods, 20, of Wayland, was arrested Sunday afternoon in the 200 block of West Main Street in Wayland on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance, first offense.

Ruth Ann Dawson, 52, of Washington was arrested Sunday night in the 2000 block of 250th Street in Washington on a charge of failure to appear for trial on dog at large.

Lukas Scott Smith, 37, of Des Moines, was arrested Sunday night at Highway 218 and the Highway 92 ramp in Ainsworth on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and three counts of possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense.

Traffic accident

A caller Friday morning in the 200 block of West Main Street in Washington reported a backing accident outside the office, involving a Lincoln Navigator and an older gold Cadillac. There were no injuries, and the roadway was not blocked. An officer responded. One party (unknown name) had left prior to the officer’s arrival. There was no damage. No information was exchanged. The incident was documented.

A two-vehicle accident was reported Friday evening in the 100 block of West Madison Street in Washington. There were no injuries. An officer responded. Damage was over $1,500, and a state accident report was filed. A female juvenile was cited for failure to stop at an assured, clear distance.

A caller Friday night at Highway 218 and Old White Way in Crawfordsville reported hitting a deer. The vehicle occupants had no injuries. They planned to drive the vehicle to the Four Corners and meet the deputy there. A deputy responded. A towing service was contacted to remove the vehicle. The accident was documented for insurance.

A caller Friday night in the 3000 block of 305th Street in Crawfordsville reported his 17-year-old daughter rolled her car west of Crawfordsville. The vehicle was a white Ford Focus with the inside light possibly on, on the north side of the road. The caller was transporting to the Henry County Hospital. An officer responded. Damage was more than $1,500. A state accident report will be filed. Charges are pending on the juvenile driver.

A caller Saturday morning at Underwood Avenue and Highway 22 in Riverside reported a car vs. deer accident with no injuries, and believed the car was drivable. An officer was advised. Documentation was made for insurance purposes.

A caller Saturday morning at 190th Street and Elm Avenue in Keota reported a subject had driven into the ditch. There was a possible medical issue. Occupants were out of the vehicle. An ambulance, Keota QRS and Fire, and officers responded. The driver had already contacted a towing company to remove the vehicle. The ambulance transported one subject to the University of Iowa Hospitals. Jeffery Crossett, of Keota, will be cited for failure to maintain control.

A caller Saturday afternoon in the 60 block of North Washburn Street in Riverside reported someone hit his wife’s vehicle. He was unsure when it occurred. An officer spoke with the caller. The caller requested documentation.

A caller Sunday evening at Highway 92 and Larch Avenue in Washington reported hitting a deer. There was no noticeable damage to the vehicle, but the deer was still alive and in the roadway. An officer responded and was unable to locate the deer.

A juvenile received a citation, Sunday, for failure to maintain control in regard to a traffic accident that occurred Friday near Crawfordsville.

Traffic stop serious

An officer reported being at a vehicle stop, Saturday night at East Sixth Street and North Fourth Avenue in Washington. A 15-year-old male juvenile, of Washington, was cited for driving under suspension.

A caller Saturday night in the 1300 block of East Third Street in Washington reported that several juvenile subjects were riding four-wheelers and dirt bikes in the alley and being loud. They were also possibly trespassing on a subject’s property. An officer responded and spoke with the father. The issue was resolved.

Traffic other

A caller Friday night at East Second Street and North Greene Street in Riverside reported a vehicle was blocking the alley, and requested a deputy. A deputy checked the area and was unable to locate the vehicle.

A caller Sunday afternoon at East Van Buren Street and South Ninth Avenue in Washington reported that about 10 cars were parked in a no-parking zone by the football field. An officer responded and spoke with subjects there about making an announcement to move the vehicles.

Disabled vehicles

A deputy reported being out with subjects pulled over, Saturday afternoon in the 2700 block of 220th Street in Washington. The officer advised that they had run out of gas, and provided them with a ride to Washington.

An officer reported a disabled vehicle, Sunday morning in the 2300 block of Highway 92 in Washington. Everything was fine.

Fire calls

A caller Friday morning at Highway 218 and 295th Street in Crawfordsville reported her friend was pulling horse trailer and the front tire of the truck blew out. The tire was on fire in the ditch. The vehicle was a white Dodge 3500. Additional callers advised three different areas of the ditch were on fire. An officer and Crawfordsville Fire Department responded. Ainsworth Fire Department was disregarded. The fires were extinguished. A towing company responded and towed the vehicle at the owner’s request. Wade James Sundell, 32, of Paton was cited for operating a non-registered vehicle.

A caller Saturday night in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona reported someone had a fire in their yard across from the caller’s property. An officer spoke with subject, who put the fire out.

A caller Sunday night at Redwood Avenue and 295th Street in Washington reported a grass fire out of control near Quince Avenue and 285th Street. Washington Fire and Ainsworth Fire responded. The fire was extinguished.

A kitchen grease fire was reported Sunday night in the 900 block of Prospect Place in Washington. The caller requested the fire department. Washington Fire Department, Alliant Energy, and officers all responded. The fire was extinguished.

A caller Monday morning in the 800 block of East 15th Street in Washington reported a commercial fire alarm. A key holder advised to disregard. Washington Fire, ambulance and an officer were disregarded.

Animal complaint

Dispatch received a report Friday afternoon in the 500 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington that an older male was walking his dog, and a large dog came out and bit him and his dog. An officer responded and spoke with the owner. He was not home at the time of the incident. The victim dog was taken to the veterinarian, and its owner had his bite checked out. The suspect dog had all shots up-to-date. Dog bite papers were filled out.

A caller Saturday night in the 800 block of North Eighth Avenue in Washington reported there was a sick raccoon in the area, and requested an officer. The officer was unable to locate the animal.

A caller Sunday morning in the 90 block of North Washington Street in Riverside reported a barking dog. An officer responded and was unable to make contact with the owner. The officer left a message for the owner to call in.

A caller Sunday morning in the 900 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported three chickens loose in the road. An officer responded. They were loose from the backyard of a neighboring residence. The officer spoke with a subject there, who confined them. The subject was advised that he needed a permit.

Assault

A caller Friday afternoon in the 300 block of East Madison Street in Brighton requested to speak to a deputy in reference to an assault that had occurred the previous week. An officer spoke with both parties. The female party denied that the incident was physical and that they had a verbal argument. The male party was moving out of the area. Documentation was made.

Barking dog

A caller Saturday night in the 900 block of Eighth Street in Kalona reported the neighbor’s dog had been barking and wouldn’t stop. No one was home. An officer left a message for the owner to call in.

Burglary

A caller Friday night in the 500 block of North Iowa Avenue in Washington reported someone broke into the residence and stole money. An officer responded. Documentation was made.

Civil standby

A caller Sunday afternoon in the 200 block of Washington Street in Ainsworth requested a civil standby. Items were retrieved without incident.

Disorderly conduct

A caller Saturday night in the 1000 block of North Iowa Avenue reported an 11-year-old was out of control. Officers responded. The problem was resolved for the night.

DP & Q

A caller Friday night in the 1200 block of North Iowa Avenue in Washington reported loud music, with a large fire in the backyard and embers floating around and landing on the neighbor’s roof. An officer spoke with the subject, and he was advised of the complaint.

A caller Saturday night in the 900 block of East Second Street in Washington reported a loud party going on in the area. An officer spoke with subjects, who agreed to close the garage door and quiet down. The caller called back and advised that they were still playing loud music. Officers responded and advised the subjects to turn the music down.

Family offense non- violent

A caller Sunday morning in the 700 block of East 13th Street in Washington reported she was in a verbal dispute with her boyfriend. He was leaving on foot, wearing a dark blue shirt, jeans and a hat. An officer responded and located the male subject, and spoke with him and the caller. The parties were going to separate for the night.

Intimidation/harassment

A caller Saturday morning in the 300 block of First Street in Mount Pleasant reported harassment from subjects via phone calls and text messages. An officer responded and spoke with the caller. The information was documented.

A caller Saturday afternoon in the 500 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington requested to speak with an officer regarding harassment from neighbors. An officer spoke with all parties involved.

A caller Saturday afternoon in the 1300 block of Deer Run Drive in Riverside reported her neighbor painted a harassing sign at her property. They just had court, and this was an ongoing situation. The caller requested to speak with a deputy and just wanted the incident documented.

A caller Saturday night in the 1600 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington reported he was being harassed by a female subject in the other apartment building. An officer spoke with both subjects. The problem was resolved for the night.

A caller Saturday night in the 1700 block of East Seventh Street in Washington reported being threatened by someone at work. An officer spoke with the caller. Statements were taken. Documentation was made for the time being.

A caller Sunday night in the 1600 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington reported a subject from the apartment complex was continuing to harass her outside the apartments. Officers responded. Both parties were spoken to. The subject was advised that, if he caused further problems, he could be arrested.

Intoxicated driver

A caller Saturday afternoon at Highway 218 and 220th Street in Ainsworth reported that a male subject in a van being driven erratically was then pulled over at G36. He appeared intoxicated. An officer responded. The subject was having a medical issue. Ainsworth QRS and an ambulance responded to assist. There was no transport.

Motor vehicle theft

A caller Sunday morning in the 500 block of D Avenue in Kalona reported a stolen vehicle, a maroon 2003 Chevrolet Suburban. It was parked in front of the residence, unlocked, with keys inside and one-fourth of a tank of gas. The water pump was bad and the vehicle would overheat when traveling too far. A report will be filed. The vehicle was entered as stolen.

Search warrant

Deputies reported being out executing a search warrant, Friday night in the 1100 block of Oriole Drive in Kalona. An additional officer also responded. A report will be filed. Charges are pending per DCI lab results for possession of a controlled substance – marijuana, third offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shoplifting

A caller Saturday morning in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington reported shoplifters who had left in a silver Dodge Stratus going westbound on Highway 92. An officer located a vehicle that matched the description in a nearby parking lot. Two other officers also responded. Four juveniles were given curfew warnings, and two juveniles will be charged with fifth-degree theft. The juveniles were released to their parents.

Stolen property

A caller Friday afternoon in the 1400 block of J Place in Kalona reported his wife and daughter had their Thai passport and a U.S. citizen passport missing or stolen. They last saw the passports on Aug. 4 in Chicago. Documentation was needed for replacement purposes. An officer spoke with the caller. The information was documented.

An officer reported being out with a found bicycle, Sunday afternoon at North Sixth Avenue and East 10th Street in Washington. The officer took the bike to the bike shed. It was a Next brand bike, black with red and white stripes.

Suspicious activity

A caller Saturday morning in the 100 block of East Main Street in Washington reported there were some youngsters going through vehicles. An officer located juveniles, who were just taking pictures. Nothing was missing.

A caller Saturday night in the 1600 block of Highway 22 in Wellman reported a subject kneeling down in the ditch near the high school. An officer responded and located the subject. Subjects were transported back to their residence.

A caller Saturday night in the 2800 block of 135th Street in Riverside reported a vehicle parked at the end of the dead-end road. It appeared to be unoccupied. An officer responded and spoke with the owners, who advised they would get the vehicle moved the next day.

A caller Saturday night in the 200 block of East Main Street in Brighton reported finding urine on the floor in the back room of his residence. An officer spoke with the caller. The information was documented.

An officer reported being out with a suspicious vehicle, Sunday morning in the 1400 block of Foster Woods Road in Wellman. Documentation was made.

Trespass

A caller Sunday morning in the 100 block of E Avenue in Kalona reported subject were on top of the grain bins by a grocery store in Kalona. Officers responded. Peyton David Miller, 18, or Wellman, was cited into court for trespass. Four juveniles were given curfew warnings.

A caller Sunday night in the 1100 block of Vine Avenue in Riverside reported there was someone on their property, possibly going through things. An officer responded and was unable to locate anyone in the area. Extra patrol will be given.

Welfare check

A caller Friday night in the 300 block of South Ninth Avenue reported that a subject yelled at his son. This was an ongoing issue, and the caller requested to speak with an officer. An officer spoke with all subjects involved for documentation only. The juveniles didn’t hear what the subject yelled, because they were wearing headphones.

All other theft

A caller Saturday morning in the 3100 block of 160th Street in Riverside reported someone had gone through his vehicle and had thrown stuff around. Nothing appeared to be missing. The information was documented.

A caller Saturday morning in the 3000 block of 160th Street in Riverside reported someone had gone through two vehicles at the residence. Small items were taken. An officer responded. The information was documented.

A caller Saturday morning in the 2600 block of 210th Street in Washington reported theft from a vehicle. Change and sunglasses were missing. Documentation was made.

A caller Saturday night in the 300 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported that her son’s all-black BMX bicycle with blue rims was taken from their residence. An officer responded. Documentation was made.

All other offenses

A caller Friday evening in the 100 block of South Farmer Street in Brighton reported a subject made a threat to them after they kicked him out of the residence. An officer spoke with all parties involved. This was a verbal dispute over a personal matter. Documentation was made.

A caller Saturday morning in the 200 block of East Main Street in Brighton reported a male subject would not let her inside to retrieve her belongings. An officer responded. The male subject had left the residence. His license plate number was noted.

A caller Monday morning in the 500 block of North Iowa Avenue in Washington reported screaming and banging around in the downstairs apartment. Officers responded. The subject was advised to keep it down for the rest of the night.
