Prairie Pride 4-H Club gets creative

Feb 18, 2013
Photo by: Washington County 4-H Visual Arts is one project area in 4-H that encourages members to use art design principals when the finished product is to have visual appeal. These design principles apply to clothing, painting, photography, and room décor. Prairie Pride 4-H Club could have used those design principals when planning their mug artwork.

The Prairie Pride 4-H Club held its February meeting. Members put their creative and artistic minds to use in two different art activities. They decorated ceramic mugs, which will be fired and returned at their next meeting as a piece of functional art.

Members also made cards for families at the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City after hearing about the facility and cause at their January meeting. 4-H member Sierra Wagner thought the club should try to give to those families. Washington County 4-H encourages each club to plan and volunteer with at least one community service project throughout the year.

The Prairie Pride 4-H Club meets the third Sunday of the month at the Washington County Extension Office. Volunteers Kathleen Brinning, Heather Greiner and Amy Greiner lead this club.

For more information on joining or volunteering with Washington County 4-H, please contact the Washington County Extension Office at 319-653-4811.
