Jul 17, 2013

AMES — The Iowa Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting between 5 and 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 18, to discuss the proposed bridge replacements on Iowa Highway 1 over the Skunk River, 1.4 miles north of the Iowa Highway 1/Iowa Highway Highway 78 junction, and over the West Fork of Crooked Creek, 1.3 miles south of Iowa Highwya1/Iowa Highway 92, in Washington County.

The public is invited to attend the meeting anytime between 5 and 6:30 p.m. at Washington High School, 1111 S. Ave. B in Washington. The meeting will be conducted utilizing an open forum format. Iowa DOT staff will be present to informally discuss the proposed bridge replacements. No formal presentation will be made.

The proposed improvements include replacing the bridges, reconstructing bridge approaches, installing guardrail, and paving short segments of Portland cement concrete beyond the bridge approach pavement.

The DOT intends to construct both bridges at the same time and is requesting public input concerning the construction schedule. Iowa Highway 1 is proposed to be closed to through traffic between Brighton and Washington during construction. The designated detour would use Iowa 92, Washington County roads W-55 and W-47, and Iowa 78.
