Relay for Life sets schedule of events

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Washington County will begin with a blood draw from 9 a.m. until noon, Saturday, June 23. The blood draw is conducted by Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center.

Team campsite setup will take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. All vehicles should be off the inside of the square by 11:30 a.m. From 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., drop off items for auctions at Central Park Center; 11 a.m., food vendors – Team Prairie Power and Team Wal-Mart – at south side of Central Park; 11:30 a.m., stop by Hal’s Pals and get lap ribbon. Opening ceremonies begin at noon, sponsored by JET Physical therapy, and include lighting of Relay candle; national anthem with Nicole Miller; opening prayer by the Rev. Rick Zickefoose; proclamation by City of Washington Mayor Jaron Rosien; presentation of sponsor comments “Why Support Relay For Life” by Washington County Hospital and Clinics; Washington County Rotary Clubs Introduction to Local Relay For Life Committee, by Denise Conrad.

Entertainment begins at 12:30 p.m. with Halcyon House Hotties—Country Line Dancers; 1:30 p.m., entertainment with Just Us Girls. From 2:10 to 2:25 p.m., Relay Collection Bank is open at Central Park Center; 2:30 p.m., Relay fundraising dollar amount announcement; 2:30 p.m. “Rocky Comes to the Park,” Team Prairie Power; 3 p.m., dessert and live auction – auctioneering by Steffes Group; 5:30 p.m., entertainment with Jeffrey Morgan -- singer, guitar and ukulele.

From 6 to 6:15 p.m., Relay Collection Bank is open at Central Park Center. At 6:15 p.m. is a Relay fundraising dollar amount announcement; 6:15 p.m., Survivor Ceremony – Maggie Techau, speaker, sponsored by Hills Bank & Trust; 6:30 p.m., Caregiver Ceremony, sponsored by Kalona Sales Barn Inc.; 6:45 p.m., Theme Lap for Bomb Squad – Emily Baumert, “Eye of the Tiger”; 7 p.m., entertainment by T J Howe; 8 p.m., campsite judging and winner announcement; 8:30 p.m., Luminaria Ceremony and Memorial Ceremony, sponsored by the VanOsdol Family and Renoux Builders; 9:15 to 9:30 p.m., final Relay Collection Bank at Central Park Center; 9:30 p.m., Relay fundraising dollar amount announcement; 9:35 p.m. Light of Hope Lap; 9:45 p.m., Fight Back Ceremony – Denise Conrad, American Cancer Society, sponsored by Harris and Harris PC.
