Residents honor our veterans

Jun 01, 2018

The weekly church service was provided by minister Rick Zickefoose, representing Brighton United Church. The sermon was titled, “Prince of Peace.” Scripture from Isaiah 9:16. Beth Janecek shared her musical talents on the piano. Anne Lamansky was the special guest this week for Chapel Services.

The Halcyon House Wellness Department and Lending Hands Adult Day celebrated National Senior Health and Fitness Day at Lake Darling State Park. Betty Osincup, Izy Flander, Betty Quinn, Marcella Reed, Clyde Pearce, Fran Victor, Mary Meeks, Margrette Utech, Bev Johnson, Wayne and Mathena Barta, Maxine Davisson and several others enjoyed a picnic lunch prepared by the Applewood Bistro, the walking trail and a scenic drive around the park.

The Halcyon Household residents have been busy honoring our veteran’s this past month. The Halcyon Activity Department organized programming around Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day. Memorial Day Trivia and puzzles, patriotic music, and the movie “America the Beautiful” was shown in Sagewood. The residents were treated with a special performance of patriotic tunes by Mary Escher and Donna Moller. Mary and Donna played “Old Favorite” polka music on their accordions to songs like “Blue Shirt Waltz”, “Red Wing”, “Tennessee Waltz”, “This Land is your Land”, “Let Me Call You Sweetheart”, and “God bless America”. The residents were clapping their hands to the music and one resident even got up to dance!

On Thursday, May 24, The American Legion and F-Troop honored seventeen residents who served their country and have passed away since January 2017 at Halcyon House. Nearly forty residents, two staff members, seven American Legion members as well as two of their wives, enjoyed the program. Mike York gave the Invocation. The Pledge of Allegiance was given by Matt Dohlman. Wayne Kaufman read the names of the residents who served their country. Lonny Milligan read several poems and gave a wonderful program. Rachel Nicola played the piano and Mike Orris closed the ceremony with “Taps.” Refreshments of cookies and punch were served following the ceremony.

Happy Birthday wishes this week go out to Beth Janecek!

The residents and team members at Halcyon House extend their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Bob Friese.
