Halcyon House hosted a retirement party, Thursday, August 30 for Mercy Brinnning, Wellness Coordinator at the Applewood Bistro. Congratulations to Mercy Brinning on 10 years of service in the Halcyon House Wellness Department. Mercy, a veteran dance and exercise instructor, has taught resident exercise classes, Line Dancing, Pilates, Cardio-Kick, and more at Halcyon House for the residents, team members and the greater community. Mercy’s passion for dance, exercise and living well has made her leader in the Wellness Industry. Mercy not only has taught exercise classes but also has helped organize and implement various programs, such as the art classes, daytrips, support groups, educational presentations and social events. Mercy, also has taken the lead on the annual Holiday Arts & Craft Festival, the largest annual attended Halcyon House event. Mercy’s kind spirit, strong work ethic and creative soul will be missed. We wish Mercy best of luck on her next adventure!

Robert Bonar and family attended the Iowa State Fair where they were presented a certificate and recognition for having a Century Farm. Karen McCreedy and family attended the Iowa State Fair where they were presented a certificate and recognition for owning a Century Farm. The McCreedy family also received recognition for owning a Heritage Farm (150 years).

Karen McCreedy and daughter Nancy attended an Altman family reunion on Saturday in Ankeny. All five siblings attended as well as many of the children and families. Members were present from Florida, Kamas City, Missouri, Chicago, Illinois, Minnesota, Des Moines, Newton, Coon Rapids, Shell Rock, and Boone in Iowa. Over thirty members attended and had a great time.

Halcyon House hosts a weekly cooking class in Arborwood. Arborwood residents this past week baked delicious cherry cream cheese Danish rolls for the weekly cooking class. It was an easy recipe using flaky refrigerated biscuits, cream cheese filling and cherry pie filling. It is always lots of fun to make new recipes to share! Enjoying the treats along with the good fellowship makes for a wonderful afternoon.

Arborwood residents also enjoy reminiscing. This past Monday, August 27 the topic of discussion was old school days. Root Beer floats were served while the residents swapped stories about when they attended old country schools. Many found memories were shared by the residents.

Happy Birthday wishes this week go out to John Kennedy, August 28, Robert Lenninger, August 29 and Maxine Peiffer, September 1.
