Richland fire remains under investigation

By Xiomara Levsen | Mar 24, 2014

RICHLAND— A fire located at 1035 Highway 1 in Richland was reported to the Washington County Communications Center about 12: 30 p.m. Friday.
The communications center call log said a caller reported a shed had caught fire on his rental property. He wasn’t sure how the fire was started. The Brighton Fire Department and Richland Fire Department responded to the scene.
Trent Holtkamp, of the Brighton Fire Department, responded to the fire. When he arrived at the scene a shed wasn’t on fire but a bunch of items in the yard were. The fire department isn’t sure about the cause of the fire, but Holtkamp believes it is being investigated.
A consent search warrant was executed at the scene. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources was contacted as well, due to several deer carcasses being found at the scene, the call log said.
Washington County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar was unavailable for comment. The Journal will report more information as it becomes available.
