Riverside Road to close April 2

Mar 28, 2018

By Xiomara Levsen, The JOURNAL

Beginning Monday, April 2, the Riverside Road (W61) will be closed for a concrete overlay project in two different locations, according to a press release from the Washington County engineers office.

The first location is from 220th Street (G36) north to 190th Street (G26) and the second is from Spruce Avenue north to the City of Riverside. This project will resurface and widen the existing pavement with 6 inches of portland cement concrete and involve paving a portion of the shoulders. Streb Construction Company Inc., of Iowa City, was awarded the project for $3,704,260. Surface

Transportation Program and Farm to Market construction dollars are being used to pay for this project. In addition, the paved shoulders are being paid for by two separate $500,000 Traffic Safety Improvement Program grants.

Weather permitting, the Riverside Road is scheduled to be closed to thru traffic at 8 a.m. on Monday, April 2.

Traffic will be detoured around the project using Hwy 22, Hwy 1, and 220th Street (G36).

Residents are encouraged to use the designated detour route and to use caution while traveling on the detour. The Riverside Road will be closed to thru traffic for the duration of the project, which is tentatively scheduled to be completed by July.

The Washington County Engineer realizes this project will create an inconvenience for local traffic, especially with planting season being right around the corner.

However, when the project is completed it will create a significant improvement to the Riverside Road, ultimately making it safer and improve traffic flow.

Any questions about the project should be directed to the Washington County Engineer’s Office.
