Running with Jingle Bells

By David Hotle | Nov 27, 2017

The family that runs together has fun together.

At least that was the motto of the Reed/Scoll extended family as seven of the family members, who just a few days prior had gethered together around a Thanksgiving table together donned their favorite cool-weather running clothes to participate in the Ninth Annual Jungle Bell Run Saturday morning. While half of the family members were from out of town, many from other states, they all decided that the cause of helping PAWS and More aid animals was a good one that they wanted to help support.

Even as November came to a close, the temperature Saturday morning was balmy and many of the runners decked out in their favorite Christmas running suits found themselves overdressed.

“We are in town for Thanksgiving,” Adam Reed of Minneapolis, Minnesota, said as he stretched with his wife Kristen Reed. “It’s for pets.”

The family members also cited Eva Reed as running track for the Washington Demons. Eva’s sister Isabelle Reed, when asked if she is going to run track, commented “absolutely not.” Eva then said that the family still has a few years to convince her that track is a great sport, although now her sights are set on the volleyabll team.

Jenny Reed Corkrin of Chicago, Illinois, another relative, said that she was also a cross-country runner at one time and that she always uses Case Field’s running track whenever she is in town.

“I didn’t want to do volleyball and I ran a 5k in eighth grade and did really well and through maybe I can do this,”Reed Corkrin said .

Mother Judy Reed Corkrin also warmed up to hit the trail as well.

About 100 people lined up on the square at the starting line, some planning on completing the one-mile fun run and others planning on running the entire 5k event.

As the starting gun fired, many people dressed in a wide variety of Christmas outfits ran past.

Organizer Steve Roth said the results of the run would be available later this week.
