Russell Laverne Zieglowsky, age 52, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 21, 2017, in Gunnison, Colorado, following a white water rafting accident.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Washington with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Thursday, June 29, 2017, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening. Interment will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. In lieu of flowers, a general memorial has been established. Russ was born March 26, 1965, in Washington, Iowa, the son of August Laverne and Margaret Ann (Wilson) Zieglowsky. He graduated from Washington High School in 1982. Russ was united in marriage to Wendy Woldan on November 27, 2010, in Washington.

Russ lived most of his life in Washington. He was the Kitchen Manager at Hy-Vee Food Stores in Washington and had over 30 years of service with Hy-Vee. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Kiwanis AM’ers. Russ was a Washington City Councilman for 11 years. He was a basketball and football officiant as well as a softball umpire. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening. The most important thing to Russ though, was attending his kid’s activities.

He is survived by his wife, Wendy Zieglowsky of Washington, IA; daughter, Brittany Zieglowsky and fiance Levi Dubberke and their daughter Olivia of Marshalltown, IA; daughter, Nathaleen Zieglowsky of Cedar Rapids, IA; daughter, Katelyn Zieglowsky of Tempe, AZ; son, Andrew Venenga of Washington, IA; and daughter, Anna Venenga of Washington, IA; parents, Laverne and Margaret Zieglowsky of Washington, IA; sister, Stephanie Bare and husband John and their children Alex and Shelby of Newton, IA; brother, Tadd Zieglowsky and his children, Ethan, Caleb and Mitchell of Washington, IA; father and mother-in-law, Frank and Becky Woldan of Dysart, IA; sister-in-law, Nicole Cummings and husband Luke and their children Catherine and Charlotte of Rochester, MN.

Russ was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clarence & Eileen Wilson and Cloyce & Maxine Zieglowsky.
