School board reviews resumes for superintendent

Apr 09, 2018

By Xiomara Levsen, The JOURNAL

The next few weeks are going to be really busy for Washington School Board members.

Last Friday, applications for the superintendent of the Washington Community School District were due.

According to current superintendent Jeff Dicks, they received 23 applications.

“The board will select five semifinalist to interview on [April] 16 and 18,” he said.

Two-to-three finalists will be chosen for an interview the week of April 23.

The finalists will be made public and will have a meeting with stakeholders in the district.

Board President Eric Turner and board members Jason Hamilton and Stephanie Ellingson are on the subcommittee to narrow down the superintendent candidates to the five semifinalists, as reported in The Journal in March.

This week the school board also will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, at the central office.

They will begin the meeting with a public hearing on the 2018-19 fiscal year budget.

“It’s a little different this year because of construction costs,” board secretary and business manager Jeff Dieleman said. “We’re not doing any construction in the district, so there won’t be any bills in the budget.”

Also, the district is making its final payment on early retirements this year, so they can back off the tax levy a little bit.
