Second YMCA meeting to be held March 6

By Xiomara Levsen | Feb 27, 2014

The second and final public meeting about the Washington Community Y’s future and location will be held Thursday, March 6.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Y’s Mens Room. This meeting will present two different floor plans.
“There will be floor plans for the new location at the proposed wellness park and floor plans for our current location if we were to stay at our current location,” said YMCA of Washington County Director Becky Harkema.
SVPA architects and Carl A. Nelson construction firm drew up the plans after receiving suggestions from the people who attended the meeting in January, Harkema said.
“We took those thoughts from that meeting and put it into the plans,” she said. “Some of the suggestions we had were to include an indoor walking track and a bigger pool.”
Harkema hopes attendance is high for this meeting, as January’s was.
“I just thought that was great,” Harkema said. “The room was full and I estimated around 80 people showed up. The public has been very helpful throughout this process.”
After this the Washington Community Y board will vote on which floor plan proposal to move forward with on March 17, Harkema said.
“Then I’ll work with the architects to finalize the plans and start a capital campaign,” Harkema said. “This will be really great for the community.”
