The Washington Evening Journal is wishing everyone a “Beary Merry Christmas” this holiday season.

The Journal will provide small, stuffed bears to participating merchants, who will hide them in their stores.

Shoppers who find the bears may keep them. Each bear has an attached numbered tag that will automatically enter the lucky shopper into a grand prize drawing at the conclusion of the promotion.

Those finding a bear should not detach the numbered tag. The tag must be attached to claim the grand prize.

The stores will have multiple bears to hide, so shoppers should continue to hunt for bears throughout the promotional dates. The event runs from Nov. 18 through Dec. 15. The drawing is scheduled for Dec. 16 at a location to be named at a later date.

An advertisement for the event is printed in today’s Journal.

Participating businesses include Ace-N-More, Moore’s BP Amoco, Archer Appliance/Electronics, Brown’s Shoe Fit, Hy-Vee and Farm Bureau Financial Services-Ann C. Williams.

Julie Scott, Advertising Director for The Journal, said readers should continue to check the newspaper and the advertisers for updated information throughout the promotion.

No purchase is necessary to participate. Participants must be 18 years of age. Unattended minors will not be allowed to remove a bear from the store. Those participating are asked to limit themselves to one bear per store throughout the promotional period.
