Single source swine class starts

Apr 06, 2017

Thirty-nine pigs found new homes on Saturday, April 1, when 11 Washington County 4-H members picked up their pigs for the official start date of the Single Source Commercial Swine Class for the 2017 County Fair. In this unique class all pigs come from the same producer, Dean Sieren of Sieren Pork. 4-H’ers have the opportunity to bring three back to the county fair for competition in interviews, rate of gain/scans and show ring performance.

“Thank you” to 4-H volunteer Dean Sieren, 4-H swine superintendent Ryan Gerot, and the 4-H’ers and families who assisted with the weigh-in and pig pickup. For more information on the 4-H swine project area, or how to get involved with 4-H as a member or volunteer, please contact the Washington County Extension Office, 319-653-4811.
