Softball teams’ regular seasons winding down

The regular season is winding down for area softball teams, but they are still playing well as they start to change their focus toward the postseason.

For the Highland Huskies, they lost to Louisa-Muscatine Monday, June 19, by a 0-5 final score.

They went on a three-game winning streak Tuesday, June 20, as they defeated Cardinal 13-2 on the road.

They won their game against Iowa Mennonite Thursday, June 22, 9-8 after eight innings of play.

The girls played four games in a tournament at Roland-Story Friday and Saturday, June 23 and 24, as they went .500 each day.

In the first game Friday, they won over Saydel 14-2, but lost to Roland-Story in the second game 3-4.

The girls lost their first game Saturday to East Marshall by a 5-6 final score.

They came back and won the second game 8-5 over AGWSR. The Huskies were host to Danville Monday, June 26.

That game ended with a 11-7 final score. The girls won at Central Lee Tuesday, June 27, by a 10-9 score.

They now have an 18-5 record. Their next game is at Wapello Thursday, June 29, starting at 7 p.m.

The Iowa Mennonite girls started their week off by winning two games in a row.

The first victory came at Cardinal Monday, June 19. They won 10-7.  The girls defeated Danville Tuesday, June 20, by a 10-6 final score.

The girls lost at Highland in eight innings 8-9 Thursday, June 22. They played two games Saturday, June 24.

The first game resulted in a 5-6 loss to Danville, but the girls won the second game 14-2 over Columbus.

They lost to Central Lee Monday, June 26 by an 8-10 final score. They won 2-1 over Winfield-Mt. Union Tuesday, June 27.

The team’s record is 6-9 and their next game is Thursday, June 29, at Van Buren beginning at 7 p.m.

The Mid-Prairie girls have had a very busy week of games, winning five and losing five.

In the game against Bellevue Monday, June 19, the Golden Hawks won 7-5. They lost both games at Durant Tuesday, June 20.

The first game had a 0-5 final score while the second game was lost 1-6. Mid-Prairie lost to Washington Wednesday, June 21, by a 2-7 final score.

The girls played in a tournament at Linn-Mar Friday and Saturday, June 23 and 24. They lost both games Friday.

The first was a 0-4 loss to Cedar Rapids Kennedy and the second was a 4-10 loss handed out by Northeast Goose Lake.

In Saturday’s action, Mid-Prairie won 6-2 over New Hampton in the first game of the day and won 3-0 over Cedar Rapids Xavier.

Mid-Prairie played in a doubleheader at West Branch Monday, June 26.

The first game was an 8-5 win for the girls while the second game ended 13-3.

Mid-Prairie has an 11-18 record. Their next game is against Cedar Rapids Prairie Wednesday, June 28, starting at 5 p.m.

The Keota girls lost 8-18 to Iowa Valley Monday, June 19. They were shut out 0-16 by Belle Plaine Wednesday, June 21. They lost 0-10 to Lone Tree Thurdsay, June 22, and lost 0-12 at Tri-County Friday, June 23.

They were host to Sigourney Monday, June 26. That game ended in a 0-17 loss for the Eagles.

Their next game is Wednesday, June 28, at English Valleys starting at 5 p.m. The girls have a 0-16 record.

The Columbus/WACO softball team won over Lone Tree Tuesday, June 20, by a 3-1 final score.

They played at Mediapolis Thursday, June 22, which ended in a 3-13 loss.

The girls played in two games at IMS Saturday, June 24. The first game was against IMS in which Columbus lost 2-14. The second game was a 7-18 loss to Van Buren.

The next time they take to the field with their 1-22 record is Friday, June 30, starting at 7 p.m. at Cardinal.
