Today the doors at St. James School were all adorned with super hero murals and the teachers were dressed in their best super hero outfits as part of the national week to honor Catholic Schools.

The week began Sunday with Superpower day, which celebrated St. James Parish. Events included Mass and brunch. Today is Superman Day, which will include visits with veterans at 1 p.m. and a penny war begins to benefit the Honor Flight Program. Tuesday will be Batman Day which celebrates gifts and talents and will include a class and staff talent show. Wednesday is Incredible Hulk Day and celebrates health and fitness. It will include a morning walk at 7:45 a.m. and a parent reading relay at 9:15 a.m. A staff volleyball game will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday is Flash Day and celebrates history. At 8:35 a.m. there will be a generation of heroes presentation and an alumni coffee at 9:30 a.m. A sock hop and hula-hoop-a-thon will begin at 2 p.m. Friday is Spiderman Day and will celebrate the web of family, friends, faculty and volunteers.

Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Special guests will visit the rooms from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Prayers will be held in Tobin Hall at 11:05 a.m. Lunch, recess and a photo booth will be held at 11:15 a.m.

“We are looking forward to honoring the people who are our super heroes,” principal Beth McBride said. “This includes our families, our alumni, our veterans, our volunteers and our staff.”

National Catholic Schools Week is an annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States.

Schools typically observe the week with Masses, open houses and other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members.

Through these events, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to church, local communities and the nation.

This year’s theme is Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.
